The attorneys at Wilcoxen Callaham have been practicing law for a combined 207 years. In 35 years of practice at our current office in Sacramento, we have been primarily a plain practice, handling cases that include product liability and all types of personal injury cases, including automobile accidents and dog bites. The firm also handles medical negligence cases and other professional liability work.The founder of the firm, Daniel E. Wilcoxen, tried his first case on Dec. 14, 1972, one day after being admitted to the Bar. Thereafter, he worked at an insurance defense firm called Rust & Armenis. He mainly practiced defense law at the Rust firm until 1979, handling some plaintiff cases as well. One notable plaintiff s case during that period was the trial of Sabich v. Outboard Marine Corporation, which resulted in a $1.854 million verdict, with $1.2 million in punitive damages. His defense practice mainly consisted of product liability cases, including a large number of flammable fabric cases and defense of the football helmet manufacturing industry.
On March 1, 1979, Mr. Wilcoxen opened his own office with 2 plaintiff cases and 2 defense cases. Within 6 weeks, he had referrals for nearly 90 more cases. In 1980, he purchased his own building After the move, the firm was named Wilcoxen Callahan, and went through various changes over the years, resulting in the current firm of Wilcoxen Callaham LLP.Although at one time the firm employed 16 attorneys, Mr. Wilcoxen did not enjoy being a full-time administrator and allowed the firm to decrease to 9 to 10 lawyers. It has remained this way for the past two decades.
