Hummingbirds are highly sensitive to colors in the red to yellow range, but are known to ignore color if the nectar is especially rich. • Your local WBC carries pure hummer sugar that attracts more hummingbirds than other nectar products. With no dye, no preservatives, no artificial sweeteners and no protein additives, it’s just clear hummer sugar that dissolves easily in cold water. AUDUBON.ORG This Winter Marks an Incredible 'Superflight' of Hungry Winter Finches
Irruption of Pine Siskins - Continuing to feed the Pine Siskins will help many of them survive. If food is taken away completely they will starve and die. Use feeders that do not allow them to stand on food such as tube feeders and use feeders that are easy to clean. Clean feeders and birdbaths at least weekly using 10% bleach with water and rinse thoroughly and allow feeders to dry before refilling. If seed gets wet discard and refill with fresh food. Keep the ground below the feeders clean and remove any seed debris. Salmonella bacteria is transmitted through food and water that contain feces. Pine Siskins are more susceptible than other bird species.
