Dear Presenter:
On behalf of PIEDMONT FUTURES and the 10th Grade Career Day Planning Team, we would like to thank you for participating in the Regional 10th Grade Career Day, March 14 and 15, 2013, at Piedmont Virginia Community College. The event impacted 2,000 students from Albemarle, Charlottesville, Fluvanna, Greene and Nelson school districts and provided students the opportunity to learn about careers and to make more informed decisions in the future.
More than 140 business professionals from 115 area businesses and organizations filled 200 speaker slots during the two-day event. NBC29 reported on the event in this story.
Responses from students, parents and business presenters included the following:
• “Excellent classes in nursing and being a doctor! I had a lot of fun and learned some interesting new stuff, including how to do laparoscopic surgery with a simulator.”
--10th grade Governor’s School student at William Monroe HS in Greene County
• “I was offered an internship in landscape design.”
--10th grader from Western Albemarle who attended landscaping career session
• “My son has dreamed of aerospace engineering for the last 10 years. He is the one who held up the buses today because he was too engrossed in the conversation with a ‘cool’ engineer who was explaining to them the landing gear on the Mars rovers, among many other fascinating things that convinced him that buses could wait but this was a moment that wouldn't. Thank you everyone for making this moment happen for my son today.”
--parent of a 10th Grader
• “Again thank you for including me…as I love partnering with your team and the work that you do. Obviously, I am ‘in’ again for next year etc. Good job and see you soon!!”
--Banking & Money Management Presenter
• “The kids were interested [and] asked great questions.”
