In honor of stuffing season's approach, we thought we'd play a quick game of What's Safe to Put in Your Garbage Disposal: Thanksgiving Edition.
Turkey — Depends on who you ask. We prefer to err on the side of caution and not put turkey, a relatively tough meat, in the garbage disposal.
Turkey bones — Hard no.
Cranberry sauce — Likely okay in small amounts, especially if it's the kind without actual cranberry skins in it.
Leftover steamed carrots — Yep, but again, within reason. (Do not put a pot full of carrots in there.)
Mashed potatoes? We're afraid not. Starches are notoriously lethal to garbage disposals. (Ditto for potato peels.)
Gravy. Gravy is made from fat and starch, major clogging agents, so this is yet another N-O.
And last, but not least: stuffing. No go, friends. It's made from bread — starchy as heck.
You know what though? You'll be fine! Just remember to scrape those plates into the compost or trash before you wash 'em and you won't have any problems at all. Godspeed!
