Addiction is a condition that impacts people, regardless of age, gender, or economic situation. One moment you believe that your life is under your control, and the next, you realize that you’re unable to hold a job or relationship due to your substance use. https://www.womensrecovery.com/womens-rehab-blog/staying-motivated-during-recovery/ WOMENSRECOVERY.COM Motivation During Recovery | Women's Recovery Programs CO
I would toss a rock, progressively bigger and bigger, into the lake and listen for the kerplunk. After watching my science experiment that morning, my mother asked me what I learned. To her surprise I answered with… “the water rings always touch the shore”. It made a profound impact on my understanding of the interconnectedness of life.
Recognizing the effects of trauma on our lives can help us heal. #traumainformedcare #denver #womensrecovery
I love my partner, and sometimes I want to scream at him. Marriage is hard. We turn to Nordstrom Rack and Target, bottles of wine, pills, working overtime, and emotional and/or sexual affairs to escape. We run from intimacy and hide our vulnerabilities under a well-constructed mask. Why? Because relationships are hard and being “good” at giving (and receiving!) love doesn’t come naturally to many of us. The solution, while not easy by any means, means taking the mask off, leaning into the discomfort of the relationship, and talking about the underlying fears of abandonment, control, whatever it may be. Once we’re open to addressing these concerns, we can learn to understand our own fears of intimacy and vulnerability. We can communicate directly without avoidance, without the mask, without the cover of shopping, pills, wine or relationships. To say “When [this] happens, I feel [this way] and the story I tell myself is _____. Can we talk about this?”

As women, there are crucial times in which we are more at risk for a return to use due to strong hormonal shifts; when the body resets. For alcohol, there is a critical time of 45 days sober. Lunar cycles and feminine energy affect our bodies. And most salient, we are at risk one week before starting our periods – happening each and every month. During these times, it is imperative to reach out, have support, and take care of ourselves with nutrition, exercise, and mindfulness practices. #waxingcrescentmoon #intention #soberwomen #coloradosober #recoveredalcoholic #womensupportingwomen #womenswellness

Women are more likely to experience intense cravings and relapse when compared to men.
