Longer-haired and thick-coated dog breeds, such as huskies and other dogs bred for colder climates, are more tolerant of cold weather; but no pet should be left outside for long periods in below-freezing weather

As the weather is cold, please keep animals in mind. If at all possible, keep them inside. If not possible, ensure they have proper insulated shelter always available for them to access. If you see a stray or owned animal you are concerned about, call to report it at 297-2255.

We are asking our residents to please make arrangements to bring your animals inside. The temperatures are hitting an unprecedented below freezing. Even with a dog house, animals are still in danger of hypothermia and death. If you need assistance or advice, please reach out. Ask a neighbor for help. Board your animal at a veterinarian or boarding facility. There are warming shelter locations that allow pets at 301 SW 23rd Street and 6710 N. Classen Blvd. If you need to surrender your animal because you have no other options, the shelter is making an exception to the current hold on surrenders and will accept your animal between 9AM-5:30PM any day, even during the storm. If you cannot drive, please call 297-2255 and let them know you need to speak with a supervisor about surrendering your animal so it does not freeze.

I dedicate this day that me and my staff have spent every waking second caring for, doting over, educating, and doing all we can to help animals to Ms. Pippa. She was a behavior case of mine and her parents really stepped up and work so hard to rehabilitate her. She had won the fight over previous neglect. She passed yesterday at 3yrs of age and I am forever grateful to have been a part of her journey. Love you Pippa.
