I really love the '404' in the Acacia wood on our new site for SMW Designs. It really makes this page pop.
For those that aren't web nerds, the '404' error is returned by a web server when a page doesn't exist (it was moved, deleted, or never existed in the first place.) By default, websites return a pretty ugly webpage that is the opposite of user friendly.
How often do people really see this page though, you ask? Well, hopefully never. With proper 301 redirects, even when you move or delete pages you can avoid ending up with broken links. Still, it can happen in a situation as simple as a user making a typo in a URL.
Do you really need to spend that much time designing this niche page, though? In a word, no. However, we pay great attention to detail over here at Yellowstone Digital Media. What is each project but the sum of each small detail, meticulously considered and properly crafted?
We’re doing a little experimenting with our brand awareness ads. As a relatively new company, our name recognition is not that high (yet)!
Small businesses often overlook the value of brand awareness marketing campaigns. If you’re only trying to sell with your ads, your audience might ignore them outright.
For a long term marketing strategy, you want to make sure that your target audience knows about your business and generally has a positive opinion of your brand. Then when they’re ready to do business, they’ll come to you because you’re the name they know and think favorably of.
The web design for Classy N' Sassy Coffee is coming along great!
Working with Cassie from Classy N' Sassy has been wonderful. We are helping them build their online presence, from a website and online store to managing their Google My Business listings.
We're also building a special mobile menu functionality where customers will be able to pull up the Classy N' Sassy menu using a QR Code on their smartphone. Pretty neat!
We got some new hats in! A big thank you to @namastecreateco!
Product photo shoot with Classy N Sassy Coffee yesterday! We are building them a beautiful new website and it’s turning out great!
I love getting to travel and see our national parks. If you’re a small business owner like me, hopefully you’re getting to spend as much time as possible doing the things you love too.
Unfortunately, it’s easy to get bogged down in tasks you don’t really want to be doing.
We specialize in web design and digital marketing because that’s our passion. And we want you to spend more time doing the things that you love too. That’s why you started your own business in the first place, right?

How do you use keywords to increase traffic to your website? If you're a small business, you'll want to know the answer.
This post covers two important tips to keep in mind when you are trying to rank higher in Google.
Second, when building your web pages, make sure that you are using proper semantic HTML tags (<h1>, <h2>, etc.) It's best practice, but it also signals to Google clearly what's going on on your webpage. Including your targeted keywords in your headings can go a long way toward increasing your rankings.
Next, pay attention to keyword frequency (the number of times your keyword appears on your page.) You don't want to spam your keyword—in fact, you should always be posting real quality content—but your keyword should show up repeatedly throughout your page to make it clear to Google that this is what your page is about.
There's a lot more to SEO than just these two tips, so follow our account for more tricks and strategies to grow your business. You can also send us a message or give us a call if you have any questions about SEO or best practices for your website.
We are finishing up a beautiful website for SMW Designs. Keith at SMW Designs does some phenomenal woodworking here in Billings, and it's been a pleasure to work with him and get to see all of the projects he has done. Alongside big custom woodworking projects, he also sells smaller retail items like custom Montana cribbage boards and cutting boards. One important feature of his new website is that SMW can sell these products directly without a middleman like Etsy.
You can find this product and others through SMW Designs' website at smwdesigns.net
What is a backlink? And how can it help grow your business?
One factor in Google's search results algorithm is your number and quality of backlinks. A backlink itself is just a link to your website from another website. In theory, the better your business is (or the quality of your website) the more other sites will be referencing and linking to it. And Google does take into account what website is doing the linking—for example, a link from the Billings Gazette is going to be more valuable than a link in your nephew's blog with 4 readers.
Building backlinks is an important part, but just one part, of SEO. For more tips and tricks that you can use to boost your business, follow our account. And if you're ready to turn over the hard work of SEO to the Billings website experts, give us a call!
We have been fortunate to work with Keith at SMW Designs to build an ecommerce website selling his custom woodworking products, like these beautiful Montana cribbage boards and cutting boards.

Here's a neat tip in identifying valuable keywords for your business:
When you're using a tool like SEMRush, pay attention to the CPC (cost per click) for each keywords. This is the amount Google would charge you per click if you had a paid ad for that keyword.
If you're a small business in Billings competing against large firms, you can take a big shortcut here and just look at the keywords your competitors have already identified and are paying $$$ for. Then, put in the time and effort to build SEO for those keywords on your website.

Have you been following Matt on his journey to date a girl from every state?
It all began during the pandemic, when Matt began a quest to do a virtual date with a girl from every state. After he completed that mission, he decided to go all-in, leaving his job and embarking on the roadtrip of a lifetime to do an in-person date with each of the girls. He's been documenting it all along the way, and has become a viral Tik Tok sensation.
We are proud to have been able to help Matt out with his website at 50dates50states.com
Giving back is part of our mission. That's why we've partnered with Helping Hands in Hardin food bank to build them a website. Helping Hands' mission is to eradicate hunger in Big Horn County, where nearly 1 in 3 children do not have reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food.
