Violin Making, Bow Making, and Restoration since 1992
Zoran Stilin, cellist and violin maker, is a native of Zagreb, Croatia. After completing his studies at the Music Academy of Zagreb (Valter Despalj), Stilin continued his education in Switzerland (Michael Flaksman), and later at the University of Arizona (Gordon Epperson and Peter Rejto). Mr. Stilin is a prize-winner of the former Yugoslavia National Cello Competition. He performed as a soloist with the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, the Radio-Television Orchestra, Music Academy Symphony Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra “Gaudeamus.” He has been studying violin making with Mr. Karl Roy, (Mittenwald, Germany) one of world’s leading authorities in the field.
By combining his passion for music and fine instruments, Mr. Stilin offers a complete approach to instrument making and repair. He is a member of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and an active solo and chamber musician. In 2006, Mr. Stilin received the highest honor from the Violin Makers Association of Arizona International: the Bob Wallace Memorial Award, Grand Champion, given for violin making. Zoran Stilin has been awarded first prizes for his violins, violas, cellos, bows, and quartets.
