My name is Renaissance. (Reni)
I used to have a job. I was the full-time support dog to a human lady who really needed me. We went everywhere together walks, stores, even to church! She was older and she trusted me to walk slowly and never try to dart away to visit other dogs, cats or squirrels. My human spoke my language, which is sign language. Some years ago I lost my hearing. It hasn’t been a problem though, as I understand and respond to hand signals. However I don’t know the sign for sadness, which I felt when my lady passed away and I lost my home and my purpose. I hope I will be lucky enough to find that kind of right-fit home again and keep it for the rest of my life.
I’m staying with a nice foster family, but what I really want is a human that I can be with all day, every day. I’m a companion dog! My ideal human works from home or is retired. While I like kids, I do startle easily because of the deafness, so probably the best fit for me is a house with only bigger humans. I do well with other animals. As mentioned, I’m very easy on a leash and calm in public.
I have a mind of my own. For instance, if someone signs for me to “sit”, I will definitely consider it. However if I don’t want to I’ll give my head a big shake “no”. My foster family thinks this is funny, but I’m just letting you now I’m an independent thinker.
I was named Renaissance because I’m a classical Pyr beauty. Many people only see my flowing white hair and friendly smile. I certainly attract a lot of attention from strangers with my sweet good-dogness. But that’s not nearly all there is to me - I’m extra smart. Not to brag, but I know a ton of command signs that I use to do my job as a companion very well. I’m also extra loving and bring a sense of calm and security to a household.
Consider me for the job of loyal companion! I bring years of experience and will work hard and sleep hard for you.
