What are Total Coliform Bacteria?
Total coliforms include bacteria that are found in the soil, in water that has been influenced by surface water, and in human or animal waste.
Bacteria contamination of a well can be caused by a crack in the well casing, water sitting stagnant, wells being flooded or introduced by any well work that has been done. If you suspect that your well is contaminated or your well water sample has tested positive for bacteria, we can walk you through the recommended steps to sanitize your well or send you our instructions by mail or email.
If repeated coliform testing shows that this is a persistent problem with your well, we offer a liquid metering pump system that will give you constant chlorination to kill the bacteria before the well water enters your home. The chlorine can be removed prior to consumption using our simple carbon filter systems.

What are Nitrates and Nitrites?
Nitrates and Nitrites can occur naturally or artificially in groundwater. Nitrites are not as common because they are quickly oxidized to nitrates and are not as likely to be in drinking water in dangerous concentrations. Nitrate salts come from fertilizers carried by run-off water that can seep down into wells. Nitrates are also found naturally in sewage, and mineral deposits. High levels of nitrates in drinking water are toxic to humans and animals, especially fetuses and newborns. It can disrupt the oxygen delivering ability of hemoglobin in the bloodstream causing methemoglobinemia or "blue-baby" syndrome.
How can nitrates be removed from your drinking water?
We have a Reverse Osmosis System that is installed directly under the kitchen sink for drinking and cooking to remove the nitrates from the water. We can also provide a whole-house ion resin system that removes nitrates for the entire home.

Tannins are chemical compounds from decaying plant matter or vegetation that can end up in your well water. We have some clients who want a water softener without the maintenance. While we do provide a salt route taking care of the salt for you, we understand those who don't want the salt at all. Because of this we carry the residential sized German-made Vulcan Electronic, non-magnetic Descaler. We have seen some colder nights. Winter weather may cause some water problems for homeowners. Wells are designed to access groundwater that does not freeze, which is why most of your well components are below the freeze line. But the lines exposed to the freezing temperatures should be wrapped with insulation or heat tape to avoid pipe bursts or swelling. Here our some picture examples. If you have questions about your water treatment system in this colder weather, DONT! Our systems are built tough. You can throw a blanket over it to avoid frost on your system but they will be just fine without. If it's a hard freeze then just let the water trickle overnight.

Total Coliform bacteria are common in the environment such as in soil and the intestines of animals. If this bacteria is found in your well water that may mean one of many things. What are Volatile Organic Compounds?
We have a residential package that tests for VOC's which are chemical substances that evaporate at room temperature and are commonly found in household products and building materials such as gasoline, solvents, cleaners, paints, and pesticides. This class of chemicals is sometimes found in drinking water due to human activity such as a spill or improper disposal.

Is sulfur in water safe?
The answer depends on the amount of sulfur in the water. Hydrogen Sulfide gas occurs naturally and can come from different sources under the ground, such as rotting plant material or bacteria. With sulfur water, there could be a strong "rotten-egg" odor, which is not pleasing to cook with, drink or bathe in.
