Reposted from @nevro_hf10 Hugh’s 4-year struggle with “almost unbearable pain” developed as he aged and wasn’t relieved until Dr. Alexander Taghva recommended an HF10 trial.
“There was no preceding event and the pain wasn’t terrible at the beginning but eventually it was always at Levels 7-9,” said Hugh, who is now 79-years-old.
Hugh consulted a neurosurgeon whose treatments didn’t deliver significant results. He had several rounds of epidural injections but that pain relief was short-lived. Physical therapy also failed to help.
Hugh’s next step was a lumbar fusion recommended by an orthopedic surgeon. “That procedure helped slightly at first but then the pain got even worse,” Hugh recalled. “I wasn’t able to stand for more than 10 minutes and I had to give up golf, which I loved and played three times a week.”
Finally, Hugh found Dr. Taghva and did an HF10 trial -- which he says gave him almost immediate relief --in mid-September 2019. He received his implant a few weeks later and reports 90-95% sustained relief even without medication.
“Now I’m doing Pilates three times a week and walk my dog for 40+ minutes,” Hugh said. “I am incredibly happy with HF10.”
