Animae is an interpretation by Puffer Malarkey Collective of West Coast Asian cuisine. A formal, seductive atmosphere sets the stage for highly theatrical dining on the ground floor of Pacific Gate by Bosa, Downtown San Diego’s newest ultra-luxury condominiums. Animae’s coal-fired, Asian-inspired menu utilizes a Josper oven and Japanese robata grill to prepare large format proteins such as West Coast Wagyu, while the finest raw seafoods are delicately presented as crudos. Standouts include koji marinated tomahawk pork with curry, fennel pollen, and Asian pear; kung pao sweetbreads with pepper, wasabi peas, broccoli, and lotus; and Kampachi with sea bean, daikon, serrano, shiso, and plum vinaigrette.
