. Check the flue pipes, seams, walls and ceiling around your furnace for soot or discoloration and if found, call a professional to inspect your ventilation.
. Check your furnace flame and make sure it is blue. If not, have it inspected by a professional.
. Be sure you have operational smoke and CO alarms installed throughout your home.
. Keep the area around your furnace clean and free of paper, trash, paint, and other flammable material.
. Keep a fire extinguisher accessible near your furnace
