We will be closed on Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day. We hope you and your furry family enjoy the holiday! Even though summer is almost over, remember these tips to keep your pet safe: - Heat kills! Never leave your pet in a car, even for a quick trip! On a sunny 70 degree day, your car can heat up to over 100 degrees in minutes. Hot asphalt will scorch your pet's paws-so if it's too hot for your bare feet, it's too hot for your pooch. - Don’t let your dog drink lake water or river water. Water from lakes and rivers is often full of bacteria that can cause illness. If there’s a bloom of blue-green algae, your pet could be at risk of liver failure and nervous system damage if they ingest it. - Check your pet for fleas and ticks. Your pet can get them from wildlife that comes through your yard. Although fleas and ticks can be anywhere on your pet’s body, they prefer posting up near the head, ears, neck and paws. You can spot evidence of fleas if you notice little black specks that resemble pepper or bits of dirt. - Keep corn cobs out of reach from pets. We frequently see dogs get into trouble because they swallow a chunk of cob that gets lodged in their intestinal tract and causes a blockage. The moral of the story is obvious: Corn cobs belong in the garbage, well out of paw’s reach!
Rabies is a very serious disease, but it's entirely preventable! Today, on World Rabies Day, take a moment to double check if your pet's rabies vaccine is up to date. Yes, even your indoor cat needs a rabies vaccine! It can be transmitted when an infected mammal bites another.. so keep your pets away from raccoons, bats, skunks and foxes! If your pet has an expired rabies vaccine, please call us or visit Pet Desk to request an appointment!
New season, new health risks! 🍂 Besides keeping your pets away from rat and mouse poisons, the Halloween candy, and mushrooms, here are some other dangerous items you should keep away from your pets! Review the Pet Poison HelpLine for anymore information about what is safe for your pets this fall! https://www.petpoisonhelpline.com

August 15 is National Check The Chip Day!! Microchipping your pet increases the likelihood of your pet being returned home safe. 🏡 This only happens though if the information is accurate. If you have moved recently or changed phone numbers, contact the microchip company to update all information. If you don't know which company it's under, go to AAHA.com and look under their 'microchip lookup' tab. Does your pet not have a microchip yet? That's ok! Please call us and we can make them an appointment. It's fast, easy and your pets won't even know what happened! 🐶

Gobble Up These Thanksgiving Safety Tips!🦃 1: Bits of lean meat are generally fine, but fatty skin, gravy, and drippings can cause pancreatitis. 2: Bones are choking hazards! Be safe, and skip giving your pets turkey/chicken bones. 3: Onions, garlic, raisins, and mushrooms oh my!! These are a no-no for fido and felines too. 4: Make sure flowers and centerpieces are in the center of the table, out of paws reach, and are feline safe. 5: Never give your animals alcohol! This can lead to serious health problems. Helpful Tips:😻 - Consider putting your pet in another room with toys and food/water. This will be a 'safe place' for them to decompress while guests are inside the house. - Keep emergency animal hospital numbers ready incase anything happens. Most animal urgent cares are open 24/7 hours, but double check before the night begins. - Consider boarding your pet over the holiday! Bear Valley Vet has a wonderful pet resort, and friendly staff.
