The Proboscis Monkey is exclusively found in Borneo. Their most distinguishing feature is their nose, which they use to attract females to their harem. A larger nose is important because it will alter their vocalization. They are typically found in the rainforest and mangroves in the swampy areas. They are very fond of insects, leaves and fruit. Luckily they have webbed hands and feet which make them a good swimmer, because they have many predators to escape from such as the clouded leopard, crocodile and pythons. Sadly the Proboscis Monkey is endangered due to poaching and habitat loss.

As its namesake suggests, the Sri Lanka Frogmouth is commonly found in Sri Lanka and Western Ghats in India. Their face resembles that of a frog, with a flat, yet hooked beak. The female will lay one egg at a time, while leaving the male responsible for keeping the egg warm during the day. They are most comfortable perched in tropical forests, when they are not searching for insects, frogs, and mice to eat.

Meet our February Pets-of-the-Month!
Timon and Pumbaa have a very special job and home. They live at Mount Saint Vincent, which is a residential and day treatment facility for kids who have experienced trauma. Timon and Pumbaa are part of the Animal Assisted Therapy program. Their role includes working with therapists in session to help promote kids' treatment progress. Some session activities include making mazes, petting and grooming, and caretaking tasks. Perhaps their most important role is to serve as a non-judgemental companion for the kids to share their feelings and experiences with in session. When they aren't working with kids in therapy sessions, Timon and Pumbaa enjoy munching on their favorite vegetables and providing support and comfort to the staff.
