About

There is no higher calling,
no greater purpose than that of a caregiver.
Somehow, we’ve come to believe that caregiving
is just for some of us and not all of us.
Yet at our core, we are all made to love, to connect,
to extend ourselves in service of others.
The question is ... do we have the will to love, to do what it takes,
to risk ourselves in caring, even when the burden is great?
In times of happiness, in times of sadness -
we are that caregiver.
WHATEVER IT TAKES

What do you do when Covid cancels the County Fair? You bring the County Fair to Bickford! Fairfield County Fair is the best County Fair in Ohio, and would have been this week. So, we made our fair for the Residents! We all dressed in our very best flannel shirts, boots and jeans. There were fair games! There was delicious fair food like elephant ears, funnel cakes, and cotton candy! We even had our own Fair King which was Eddie Leibbrand, and Fair Queen which was Linda Wagner! There were also several “entries” in our fair that received blue ribbons! It was a fun day!
Since we are not having the Fairfield County Fair this week, we are having a “County Fair Day” tomorrow! Today Hazel Abel and Becky Sorrell made flower arrangements for their County Fair entries! They did such a good job!
More pictures of our fun day!

Our awesome LPN Cheryl Hill dressed as “the election polls” for Halloween yesterday... and the results are in! President Trump won by a slim margin. It was a great conversation starter! Thanks Cheryl for your awesome creativity! It will be interesting to see if the Bickford Residents predict the future! Don’t forget to get out and exercise your right to vote! 🇺🇸

Today at Bickford we had a wonderful ceremony honoring our heroic Veterans! Our wonderful Chaplain, Jeff Taylor, brought his fife troop honoring the instruments of the past. They were able to play outside at a social distance and the Residents were able to enjoy this tradition! Thank you, Veterans, for serving our country so that we may enjoy our freedoms everyday! We are so very thankful!
Happy Veteran’s Day! Thank you to all who served and sacrificed for our freedom!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! We are decking our halls every day this week! The Residents are helping make everything look very festive!!!
While introducing himself to our Residents, Bryce talked with Joann Lupo to get to know her. During their exchange she learned that Bryce used to live in TX. She mentioned that her Uncle started the Goodart’s Candy Company, and told him she hasn’t had any for years. He researched and found the candy online and ordered her a box, as well as printing out information about the company that he found online. She was ecstatic! Thank you, Bryce, for going above and beyond!
We are so happy to introduce Bryce Bumgardner into the Bickford family! Bryce is our new Community Relations Director. Bryce came to us from Alcore, and Senior Living Management company, and also has a background in Personnel Recruiting. He lives in the Dublin area with his wife, Jennifer, and his 14 month older son, Henry. Welcome, Bryce, we are so happy to have you!
Our Chaplain, April Thoms, showing Carolyn Berger how to play solitaire on a tablet!
Our new Resident, Bev Tener, relaxing and reading the newspaper. She said she would have moved here long ago if she knew she would be treated like a Queen! Thank you for the compliment, Bev!
We are so very thankful for our Bickford Family. 2020 has been the most challenging year anyone working in healthcare had ever had. A year of hardship but most of all loss like we have never known. It can weigh so heavy on us at times. We work together each day as a family and give and sacrifice to keep our Residents safe, healthy, and most importantly, loved. We are so thankful for each and every person that works at Bickford!!! Together we will keep fighting this virus and see it through and keep our Residents safe! Count your blessings every day, but especially today. ❤️
Happy Thanksgiving from our Bickford Residents enjoying their feast!
Our wonderful Kitchen Cooks, Amy Allen and Debby Curry have been working for days to get our Thanksgiving meal for our loved Residents “just right”.... and they were successful! On today’s menu - spinach salad with strawberries and walnuts, slow roasted turkey, apricot maple ham, baked yams with pecans, green beans with shallots and almonds, honey glazed carrots, apple sausage stuffing, garlic and herb mashed potatoes, fresh baked rolls and pumpkin pie for dessert! Thank you kitchen BFMs for a wonderfully delicious meal!
To our Residents and Families, Happy Thanksgiving! We are so grateful for your love and support this year and every day. To our wonderful BFMs who are giving up their time today to care for our Residents, thank you! We are so very thankful for all our BFMs who love our Residents like their own family. We have so much to be thankful for this year. Make sure to take the time to reflect on the blessings! Happy Thanksgiving from Bickford of Lancaster!
Bickford Market Day was a huge success and its safe to say we had an inventory blowout!!! Each day when Residents attend activities, they receive “Bickford Bucks” for their attendance and participation. Then each month they get to “spend” their “Bickford Bucks” on various requested items. The most popular item is candy! It fosters more participation and encourages the Residents to try new things. It’s a little different right now - we have them draw numbers to see who goes first, so we can keep them socially distanced and safe. We make it happen because they love it. Thank you to our BFMs who do whatever it takes to ensure our Resident’s happiness is achieved. It was a great day!
Our kitchen here at Bickford is amazing... today was hamburger steak or chicken Parmesan, garlic noodles, fresh cooked carrots, collard greens, and lime chiffon dessert! We also had fresh baked rolls! A huge thank you to our kitchen BFMs who go above and beyond each and every day to make our meals fabulous!
Mr. Eddie Leibbrand was speeding today, and was picked up by our current officer, Stephanie Mosure Blackford! 😂 She let him off with a warning this time. The video is a little blurry, but it’s too cute not to share!
Eddie needs to watch his speed while driving! He was picked up for speeding by our current officer Stephanie Mosure Blackford! She let him off with a warning! It’s a little blurry but it’s too funny not to share!
Renee helping Miss Jayne head to lunch!
We would like to introduce our Administrative Assistant, Renee Grooms. She has been with us since July. She does so much for our branch! She answers the phone, sets appointments, greets all of our visitors and screens them to make sure they are safe to visit, and is a listening ear for our Residents! Thank you for all you do, Renee!
Today our wonderful kitchen made a fresh green tossed salad, salisbury steak with homemade gravy, chicken cordon bleu open face, homemade mashed potatoes, cooked carrots, sautéed mushrooms, fresh baked rolls, and homemade peanut butter pie with chocolate drizzle for dessert! Nancy Frick said it was the best Salisbury steak she has ever had! Thank you, kitchen family!
Yesterday our Life Enrichment Director, Amanda, was talking to Wendell. He said he was very hungry for “snap sticks”... after questioning him for about 10 minutes, she realized he was talking about “Slim Jim’s”...she bought him some and brought them in to him today. His face lit up like a Christmas tree! He was so happy! Thank you, Amanda for taking care of little things that are big things to Wendell and so many other residents!
We had a lovely surprise from a previous resident’s family. Betty Weaver’s nieces have us wrapped presents for all residents who play bingo. It was a full house! They loved their Christmas bingo today!
Today our Chaplain, April, and Nancy Crist found out that they are distantly related! That’s pretty neat!
Miss Nancy wanted to make a pocketbook tree in our activity room, so we made it happen! She loves it!
Just knitting away, enjoying the Christmas decor!
We will be getting the vaccine for our Residents and BFMs any day now! We are determined to keep our Residents safe! Please feel free to call 740.689.9944 and ask us how we can help your loved one today!
For yesterday’s lunch we had frosted lime jello, ham with apple maple sauce, cranberry orange chicken, crab augratin potatoes, green bean and bacon casserole, sautéed vegetables, fresh baked rolls, and a snow ball cookie for dessert!
Our sweet Nancy!
Today for lunch the residents enjoyed a mixed vegetable salad, cranberry glazed roast turkey, pork chop with onions, mashed sweet potatoes, roasted cauliflower, sautéed vegetables, fresh baked rolls, and pear cobbler for dessert. It was so good!
Today we played “Giant Connect Four”! The Residents loved it!
We have a “Bickford Bucks” program that encourages our Residents to attend and participate in activities. With that they can “buy” an experience. Today’s experience was a socially distanced Pizza Hut Pizza Party! They thoroughly enjoyed it!
Today our Mary B’s Residents enjoyed making and decorating gingerbread cookies, drinking hot chocolate and watching the beautiful snowfall!
One of the neatest things about living and working in assisted living is the way everyone cares about each other and watches out for one another. This week our Residents Kathryn and Chuck noticed that our Resident, Mike, hadn’t been coming down to Bingo as often. They went into action planning a surprise for him! They made him cards, got him a little Christmas Tree, and with the help of the staff set up a little table and put the sweet notes and tree on it as a surprise for him after lunch! His smile says it all! Thank you, Kathryn and Chuck, for caring so much for Mike and making him feel so loved and important!
We would like to send a huge welcome to the newest member of our Bickford Family, our new RN Coordinator, Anne Gehm! Anne has been an RN for 34 years, and has worked in all areas of nursing. She most recently worked as a travel nurse in the Hilton Head, SC area. She is warm, caring, knowledgeable, and a wonderful addition to our management team! A warm Bickford welcome, Anne!

The slogan for Bubble Yum bubble gum is, “Blow Your Own Bubble”, and that is what we did today! Residents had a bubble blowing contest to see who could blow the biggest bubble. Our LEC, Stephanie, won but, as you can see it was a “sticky situation”.
To finish up our celebration today we made our own bubble gum machines. Residents had a bubbly good time and one resident said this was their favorite craft so far this year. Once the bubble gum machine was finished, we filled them with some yummy gum balls!
Bubble gum, bubble gum in a dish how many pieces do you wish? Today is National Bubble Gum Day and we had such an amazing day celebrating it!
We celebrated National Bubblegum Day in Mary B’s today! The residents made gum-ball machines, and we talked about our favorite flavors. The original bubblegum flavor was at the top of the list for favorites.
Music therapy is a great way to connect with our residents who are in the late stages of dementia. It can be very therapeutic and relaxing when they are having a rough day. This residents favorite music to listen to is Christmas, and Hymns. Today, we went with hymns. You could see the peace wash over her face as the song started!
For a craft today, we made some No Slip Socks. Resident got to chose their favorite colors of puff paint and decorate the bottoms on their socks in any design they wanted. The creative juices were flowing for sure!
Every year our LEC comes up with some cute Candy Gram ideas for residents to purchase, with their Bickford Bucks, to send to friends and BFMs for Valentine’s Day. Today, was delivery day and the residents were ecstatic to receive their valentines.
We are so blessed that our residents are able to watch Mass services through St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church’s YouTube channel on Mondays and Fridays. The residents have slang terms for some of the numbers that are called during Bingo. For an example, 22-toot, toot or 55-double nickels or 11-chicken legs. When our LEC calls Bingo she learns something new. We had an amazing turn out for Bingo today. Our resident, Norma F, won the Cover All Game.
What does a person do in between Bingo games? You take some fun selfies!

It was a great time had by all!
How tall was the giant, Goliath? Nine feet nine inches; or what two books of the Bible are named after women? Esther & Ruth. They had fun and enjoyed winning some Bickford Bucks in the process.

You can’t celebrate National Poultry Day and not “shake your tail feathers” to the chicken dance.
We finished up our fun day by making a chicken craft. While making the craft they told poultry themed jokes and Stephanie did her impersonation of a chicken. Residents had so much fun that their sides were hurting from laughing.
Stella stopped to see the bunnies that visited us today as well.
After the residents played with the chicks, Stephanie shared some interesting facts about poultry. Then the residents shared their experiences that they had with chickens. Everyone had a wonderful time.
Today was National Poultry Day and boy did we celebrate! Our LEC, Stephanie, knew we couldn’t truly celebrate unless we had some baby chicks. So, she brought in 6 chicks for our residents and BFMs to enjoy!
