Patricia McConnell, Ph.D. August 7 at 7:18 AM · The few moments of "Eeeps!”-related safety concerns in these videos are well worth the belly laughs that these sharp-witted dogs and cats evoke in their Houdini-like escapades.
Birchwood Veterinary Hospital will resume posted business hours Monday through Friday beginning Thursday, July 30th. We will be experiencing heavier than normal call volume so please be patient when phoning the clinic. If you encounter our voicemail when calling (it repeats one time), please leave a message. Messages will be answered in the order that they are received. Please note that calling and hanging up multiple times until you are able to talk to one of the staff members just ties up the phone lines and makes more work for staff. We are trying to accomodate clients and patients with their appointments as fast as possible. As previous, we are still doing curbside care - no clients are allowed in the building with their pets. When you arrive to the facility please call our office (803-359-0700). A staff member will speak with you over the phone and get your pet's history. If your pet has an appointment with Dr. Murphy, he will call you after he has examined your pet (and also during the exam if necessary). Please remember to bring your cell phones and masks. We ask that you mask when speaking in close proximity with or are within 10 feet of our staff members. All dogs should be on leashes with tight fitting collars and cats should should be restrained in carriers. If you are purchasing prescription refills or foods please call ahead and prepay for your medications. Our staff can take care of all payments over the phone. Again, thank you for your patience and understanding. Mike Murphy, DVM
After regaining telephone and internet service last night at 6 pm our service has been cut again for the 3rd time by road crews. We have no Windstream phone or internet service today. The cable was cut down the street from us again due to road construction.
It has happened again! Twice in less than a week! We have no Windstream phone or internet service today. The cable was cut down the street from us again due to road construction.
Birchwood Veterinary Hospital will be closed for the rest of the day. Our phones are still open and we plan on resuming seeing patients tomorrow. We had a vehicle crash into the building. Thankfully all staff and the driver are OK.

San Diego Zoo Safari Park January 11 at 3:00 PM · Members of our gorilla troop have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. The test results confirm the presence of the virus in some of the gorillas and does not definitively rule out the presence of the virus in other members of the troop. It is suspected the gorillas acquired the infection from an asymptomatic staff member, despite following all recommended precautions and COVID safety protocols from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency, as well as wearing PPE when near the gorillas. Aside from some congestion and coughing, the gorillas are doing well and remain together. They are eating and drinking, and we are hopeful for a full recovery. Read the full update: https://www.sdzsafaripark.org/gorilla-care We ask that you keep our troop and the incredible team of dedicated wildlife care professionals and veterinarians who serve them in your thoughts during this difficult time.
