Ronnie Long, 64, was released from a North Carolina prison last month after serving 44 years for a crime he did not commit. A federal judge recently vacated the conviction, stating there was a “troubling and striking pattern of deliberate police suppression of material evidence”.

A third-degree murder charge has been reinstated against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. Under Minnesota law, a third-degree murder conviction results in a maximum prison sentence of 25 years.
Chauvin had already faced charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter. These charges arose after the arrest of George Floyd proved fatal.
