A friend mentioned to me today that the Covid 19 crisis made him really reflect on the things in life that truly mattered and what would happen to his loved ones should something happen to him. We talked about the need for having a basic estate plan in place to address many of those concerns. What that really means is that people should have 3 basic legal documents prepared: a Last Will & Testament; a Medical Power of Attorney with Living Will; and a Durable Financial Power of Attorney.

The Christmas season is a stressful time for many families but especially those families that are divided by divorce. Parents struggle getting their children to activities, coordinating placement exchanges with the other parent, and for that matter figuring out what gifts to buy. Just remember that the greatest gift you will ever give your children is you being an example of kindness and patience both with them and their other parent. Children really just want a happy and peaceful Christmas with both mom and dad.

The court system has implemented many changes to how cases are handled during the Covid19 pandemic. Some counties allow personal appearances while others, including Sheboygan County, have suspended all personal appearances opting for telephonic or zoom conferencing.
Personally, I am a trial attorney so I much prefer in person court appearances as I believe it is nearly impossible for judges to discern the veracity of a witness over the telephone or video. Regardless, at Roth & Basler we will continue to zealously advocate for our clients no matter what court method is required.
