It's National Veterinary Technician Week and Ethos Employee Appreciation Week! We're kicking off with a big thank you to all employees here at Ethos who have always, but especially in the last few months, worked so hard to make sure that our clients & patients are happy, safe, and healthy. Please help us in celebrating our essential workers! We'll be celebrating them all week long! 🥳

Today starts #NationalVeterinaryTechnicianWeek! Currently in the U.S., every state regulates their veterinary technicians differently and uses different titles. Do you know which of these is not an official Vet Tech credential? #SolveItSunday

X-RAY FRIDAY ANSWER: Did you spot that donut-looking object? This dog swallowed the top of a Kong toy! When this pup presented, the ER team gave him an injection of an anti-vomiting medication, but he continued to vomit. He went to surgery where the top of a Kong toy was retrieved! This patient recovered well and was discharged soon after.
Lucky number seven, more like lucky number Eleven! This pup is Eleven, who was trapped in a house fire and luckily rescued by the fire department. The firefighters got her out of the house, gave her oxygen, and she was then transported here to Boston West.
When she arrived, she was unable to walk and was having trouble breathing. She stayed in one of our oxygen cages for a couple days due to smoke inhalation. We're happy to report that Eleven made a full recovery and was able to go home after four days in the hospital! She is the sweetest girl and we're so glad we were able to help her!
We are so glad our friends at PittieLove Rescue, Inc. were able to give Emmie a second chance, and that we could play a role in saving her life! Anyone looking to #adopt this sweet girl once she's medically-cleared, please click the link in the original post. Good luck Emmie! 💚

Meet Emmie! This petite 5-year old ball of eternal sweetness came to us after her owner brought her to be euthanized instead of providing medical treatment. He agreed to surrender her instead and we were more than happy to help Emmie by bringing her into the rescue. A huge THANK YOU to Pit Bull Rescue Central for immediately jumping in to pay for her emergency pyometra spay, which saved her life. And to Boston West Veterinary Emergency & Specialty for providing her life-saving operation! And thanks to new foster, Ellen, and family for committing to foster this diminutive beauty and helping her through her recovery. Emmie is a perfectly portable 45-lb pup who is incredibly sweet. She has a heart like a baby bird and truly loves those around her. In fact, snuggling and nuzzling is required in Emmie’s world! She loves soft bedding and prefers to arrange (and rearrange!) the blankets into a perfect nest that she can burrow in to. Emmie loves to be warm! Snuggled in, covered up, cuddled close; she prefers sleeping on the couch and with her humans. This petite gal is the whole package…she’s smart, takes treats gently, rides well in the car, and wiggles her whole body when she is excited. Emmie is not yet available for adoption, as she continues to heal from her surgery, but we will be updating our website as her status changes.

X-RAY FRIDAY ANSWER: If you guessed a toy car, you’d be correct! This dog’s owners brought him to our sister hospital, Bulger, where radiographs were taken and the toy car was spotted. For some dogs, anything can be a snack! 😆

🚨Warning🚨 This video shows a look inside the urinary bladder which may be graphic to some.
This is footage of a "percutaneous cystolithotomy" from our sister hospital in California, VSH. This is an advanced, minimally invasive procedure that allows removal of bladder and urethral stones through an incision smaller than a penny! The patient was Bort, a French Bulldog experiencing bladder obstruction from urinary stones. Radiographs had shown numerous stones lodged within his urethra, the tube that drains urine from the bladder, so he went to surgery.
Due to the less invasive nature of this procedure, sweet Bort was sent home with his family later that same day. A big shoutout to the surgeon, Dr. Thomson, for offering this incredible service and helping patients like Bort get back on their feet faster than ever before!

XRAY FRIDAY ANSWER: If you guessed a ping-pong ball, you'd be correct! 🏓
Little buddy Primo visited our team at Capital District for swallowing a ping-pong ball. They were able to remove the ball whole, and there wasn't a single bite mark on it! He had to be quick with it, we suppose! 🤫
Stop what you're doing and watch this kitten being bottle fed. 🍼
This tiny kitten is being fed and raised by one of our technicians here at Boston West. So many of our team members are also community champions. From fostering stray kittens to volunteer work, they manage to make a difference inside and outside the hospital. We're so proud of every single one of them. 🥰💚
