It takes a special person to be a caregiver and Brookdale is lucky enough to have these two. Raegan has been with Brookdale for a year and a half and Tasha for a year. They always come to work with a smile and are willing to help out wherever it’s needed. They both said the best thing about Brookdale is the residents. We appreciate everything they do to make our residents' day a great one!
Who doesn’t love a good elephant ear? The residents in Clare Bridge certainly do! We spent an afternoon making roughly 40 elephant ears. What’s that saying “You can never have too much of a good thing!”
Phil enlisted in the Merchant Marines in 1943 when he was only 17. After having served his country during WWII he came home and earned his business degree. After having willingly served as a marine, he was then drafted in 1955 into the army, he tried to appeal but was denied. Phil married Jane, had 2 children, 3 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He retired after 38 years as a salesman for Sears. Phil’s favorite thing about Brookdale is when he gets cookies!
Manicure Monday happens every week. We have some regulars and then some who are just looking for something extra special that day. Some residents choose the same color each week and some are changing it up every week! Either way, who doesn’t feel better after a manicure?
Part of our Assisted Living Week was celebrated with ice cream sundaes. Residents were able to choose between vanilla, chocolate, or Neapolitan ice cream flavors and there were many toppings to add to it! The residents love their ice cream!
It was a beautiful afternoon to enjoy a sweet treat, provided by Kona Ice. Residents reminisced about how the shaved iced flavors reminded them of their childhood.
We have some very creative scarecrows. Thank you to everyone that participated. Each scarecrow is numbered and labeled whether it is for CB or AL. Please vote for one of each. You may comment or email kmcgee8@brookdale.com or rpennington1@brookdale.com with your votes. Voting ends 10-30-2020.
We want to give a huge shoutout to the caregivers in Clare Bridge. They make coming to work every day enjoyable. They are always ready for whatever crazy idea is thrown at them. They can be seen cleaning, hanging pictures for residents, or doing something special with them. They always take extra care to make sure the residents are ready and looking their best for their visits. Once again, thank you for all that you do!
We are working on our scarecrows! Remember if you are making a scarecrow, they are due at Brookdale on Monday, October 19th. Please have them ready to be displayed with your name on it and if it is for AL or CB. We will be posting the pictures next week for judging to begin. We are excited to see everyone’s creativity!
Brookdale residents were busy this afternoon baking. There were some apple pie bites made and some pumpkin pudding cakes. Perfect fall food! Happy Fall everyone!
Marilyn is our only October Birthday, she turns 76 today! Marilyn and her husband raised 3 children in Sylvania, Ohio. She worked for the Sylvania School system. Marilyn loves shopping, getting dressed up, and drinking wine. We celebrated with her favorite, red velvet cake! Happy birthday, Marilyn.
Happy Fall everyone! Bringing a little bit of fall cheer to our Brookdale residents.
John volunteered for the Navy at the age of 18. He was in the Navy for 3.5 years during World War ll. Some of that time was spent on the USS Pennsylvania. John is proud of the service to his country and we thank you John for your service.

Phil is one of the few who served in two different branches of the military. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines during World War II and then later was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. No doubt these were two completely different experiences but he can honestly say he proudly served his country twice! Thank you for your service, Phil.
Some more treats for the residents! They are getting spoiled with milkshakes one day and nachos the next. What else sounds like a good treat for the residents?
Delbert was a marine during the Korean War, where he was stationed at Camp Pendleton in CA. Although his entire military career was stateside he still achieved the designation of “Sharp Shooter.” Thank you, Delbert, for your service.
Frank is a very proud member of the Marines and served during the Korean War. He enjoys hanging the flag and telling stories about serving his country. Thank you for your 8 years of service Frank!
Fun Fact: The banana split was first created by an apprentice pharmacist David “Doc” Strickler in 1904 in Pennsylvania.
Residents enjoyed creating their own banana splits and learning about the history of the banana split. When finished they licked their bowls clean and listened to Elvis.

Clare Bridge residents traveled to Rome for a day. They listened to Italian music while eating flatbread pizza and drinking wine or sparkling grape juice. Residents also watched a Virtual Tour of Rome and talked about some of its traditions. Did you know that Rome is most known for its religion, Roman Catholic, pizza and wine but they never drink wine with food? Now they all want a real trip to Rome!
