📌 Hurricane Isaias Update 📌 We are monitoring the storm and have a detailed emergency preparedness plan in place to try and address all aspects of an emergency situation. Our coastal communities are equipped with water, food, onsite or ready-to-deploy generators, and supplies, including an adequate supply of face coverings, hand sanitizer and disinfectants to care for residents. Our primary goal is to help ensure the ongoing safety of our residents. At this time, there is no call for evacuations. We are taking appropriate actions to keep residents safe throughout the storm and following the guidance and direction of authorities when it comes to potential evacuations. We will update our Facebook page with any necessary updates regarding the status of the storm. 📌 UPDATE: March 19 📌 🔴 ATTENTION: No Visitors Allowed 🔴 For the protection of the health and safety of our residents and associates, Brookdale is restricting all visitors and non-essential healthcare personnel at this time. Exceptions may be made for end-of-life situations or pursuant to the guidance of public health officials. Please use alternate forms of visitation such as Skype, FaceTime or phone calls for the time being. Anyone entering the community must comply with our health and screening process, follow visitor protocols and may be restricted to or from certain areas of the community. ⚠️ Healthcare workers, such as home health or hospice workers, EMS personnel lab, x-ray or dialysis technicians or similar healthcare workers providing care to residents are permitted to enter the community as long as they meet the applicable screening criteria. If you are symptomatic, you may not enter. You should check with your supervisor and determine the best course of action. ⚠️ Thank you for your understanding. Today, we had a special visitor - Karma! Part Australian Shepherd, part Great Pyrenees, and all fluff! Everyone was all smiles as they loved on Karma, enjoying her soft fur and gentle manner. Looking forward to her next visit.
When moving your loved one to a memory care community, it's important to remember function over form. Gerontologist and Brookdale's dementia expert, Juliet Holt Klinger advises creating a comfortable and familiar space for your loved one. "The more this new space looks, feels, smells and sounds like home to your family member, the better they will adjust to their new surroundings.” Read on to discover her tips to help with the transition to a memory care community. What do you do when everyone wants to do something different? Improvise, of course! Mr. Mayers wanted to play the ring toss, while Ms. Armstrong and Ms. Bouknight made paper flowers. Ms. LeGrand was content with her new hat and “supervising”. 😁
