Oktoberfest at Brookdale! Even though we are unable to have our big parties at this time, that didn’t stop us from enjoying our “Come and Go” event. Residents walked through the venue room to enjoy some German drinking music, an allotment of snacks, and a selection of refreshments that included, of course, Bavarian beverages to make anyone who stopped by say, “Prost!”
Thank you’s go out to residents Delores Fritz and Bill Thienes for the recent yummy treats they donated to staff. We appreciate all the thoughtfulness and generosity of all family members and residents with your kind gestures. It makes our day knowing we have touched your hearts enough to do something special for us! We are just one big family here at Brookdale Memorial City.
As our residents get out and visit friends and neighbors throughout our community, they remind us that practicing a safe and socially distant fellowship among others can be achieved.
It’s International Coffee Day! What better way to start a new trend in our community. Every Tuesday morning, beginning at 9:30am, we will be opening our Venue Room for our residents and staff to stop by and order their favorite “Cup of Joe on the Go”. We will also have some extra surprises in there for you to choose from to fend off those mid-morning stomach rumbles. Thank you to our Sales and Marketing Director Amy Lowry, who helped us with making the start-up of the endeavor fabulous!
Bistro Manager, Johanna Castejon, and the rest of the bistro staff have been putting in that extra effort to make sure the bistro is up and ready to go for your service, which starts back up this weekend. Everyone is so excited and can’t wait to see the residents “smiling eyes” as they are able to come in and select items once again. Bistro hours will be currently Saturday and Sunday, from 11:00am-3:00pm. We are all ready to see you there!
While this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s events will be different, they continue to be deeply meaningful. They continue to help raise awareness about the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. They continue to help raise funds that make a difference in the lives of those facing Alzheimer’s. Brookdale Senior Living Inc. continues to be one of the largest corporate supporters of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. This year, thousands of Brookdale associates, residents, and patients are participating in or supporting virtual walks across the country. As a caregiver, you may often put other people’s needs ahead of your own. While you're going above and beyond during this uncertain time, it’s important to take care of yourself. It’s looking a bit more like Autumn around Memorial City thanks to our Business Office Manager, Lisa Pankow, who loves the holidays with decorations and creating spaces with color and flair! As residents of Brookdale Memorial City, do you have any ideas for the upcoming holidays for our community? Traditions you would like to see started or adjusted to meet the needs during our socially distant times? Well, do we have a place for you! Monday, October 12th, at 2:00pm in our Community Room, we will be having our program chat meeting. Bring those ideas, masks, and be ready to have a few snacks because Melanie, the Program Director, always seems to have something to give out. We have to keep your juices flowing! See y’all there!
Our business office associates never cease to amaze us! With the Friday newsletter deadline complete, they focused on assisting in making sure these super cute surprise treats greeted residents on their doors that evening. A small craft project, a gift to give away to another, or simply a snack to have for later, every single person who lives at Memorial City received a freshly baked cookie that they could paint themselves. Thank you, Lisa, Megan, Brandi, and our fabulous security team for getting it all done.
