Central Hospital has a long-standing commitment to education in the veterinary industry, from veterinarians to support staff. Today is our very first hands on Lab Day for our Manchester Community College students.... learning proper restraint and animal handling techniques using their own pets and stuffed animals. Central Hospital partnered with Manchester CC this Spring to provide instruction for students in their Veterinary Assistant certificate program.
MCC’s Veterinary Assistant program is one of only three in New England credentialed by the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) and has received the Approved Veterinary Assistant (AVA) designation. All students who successfully complete these courses will receive an MCC certificate. Visit their website to learn more!

Since 2002 this print has held a prominent position in our hospital ..... Central Hospital will never forget those that lost their lives on 9/11 and the dogs and people that served at Ground Zero.
We would certainly be remiss if we did not recognize our favorite Facebook holiday ... 🐾🐾🐾NATIONAL DOG DAY🐾🐾🐾
Flood our page with those pooches of yours... we can’t get enough!
Here we grow again!!! In the middle of all the pandemic madness we managed to complete and move into our NEW and much larger Intensive Care Unit!! Almost double the size of our previous ICU, this new space has dedicated quiet rooms for our feline and exotic patients with glass doors that allow us to continuously observe patients but keep outside noise to a minimum to improve the comfort of these patients. We also added additional clear door runs for our canine patients and more cages for animals in need of supplemental oxygen.
Important Message: Thank you for all of your support over the past 4 months. Our COVID-19 protocols remain in place to keep everyone safe. The number of emergencies we see per day at both our North Haven and Guilford locations has increased dramatically these past months. The demand for high level specialty care has increased as well. IF YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY please call ahead, if possible, so we know you are coming. ALL communication is done by phone. We are unable to allow you to come any further than the waiting room at this time. You NEED a mask and only one person should accompany your pet into the building. We do our initial triage by phone and the time in which your pet is seen is directly related to how serious their condition is. If your pet is determined by our staff to be stable, wait times are typically 4 to 6 hours. You should be prepared to wait. We are an emergency hospital. We do not follow a convenient care model. If you visit the hospital for care that is not considered an emergency you can expect longer wait times as we attend to our most seriously Ill patients. This is likely to continue throughout the summer.
Many of you have contacted us with the suggestion that we need to hire more veterinarians. We know!!! But the whole country is experiencing a shortage of veterinarians. We continue to actively recruit with limited success. That being said, we are blessed to have a talented and dedicated crew of veterinarians here for you, many of whom pick up extra shifts to help out and make sure our ER runs as smoothly as possible.
Due to the high demands and the increased workload of our team we can NOT tolerate individuals who show disrespect to our staff members. If you can not collaborate kindly and respectfully with us we will have to ask you to leave. We don’t like that you have to wait and understand your frustration. We’re here to help. We want to help. We just need the time to be able to do what needs to be done for your pet.
We appreciate your understanding and patience during these unprecedented times. We want to be completely honest with all of you and let you know what to expect and assure you that we are doing our absolute best to ensure that your experience with us is a good one.
As always ... we are committed to being here 24/7 if you need us and thank you for the trust you put in us to care for your beloved pets ♥️
Today is an excellent day to call your veterinarian and make arrangements to get sedatives for your dog who is fearful of firework noise. We are open throughout the holiday but are unable to prescribe medication to pets we have not seen. PLAN AHEAD for your dog's sake. Please share!!

We are pleased to announce that the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS) has recertified Central Hospital as a VECCS Level 1 Facility. This is their highest level and requires a hospital to have extensive capabilities. Currently we are one of two Level 1 hospitals in Connecticut and six in New England listed in their Facility Directory. This designation is a testament to the efforts of our whole team and the amazing amount of capabilities that everyone brings to the table. We are all very proud!!
Last week we honored our 90!!! Veterinary Technicians during National Vet Tech Week. We are very fortunate to have an incredible team of highly trained and dedicated technicians to support our veterinarians and to care for your pets ♥️
Merry Christmas to all our friends that are celebrating today!! Hopefully you don’t need us today, but we are open and fully staffed in North Haven for emergencies. Our Guilford office remains temporarily closed for now. Wishing youall a safe and blessed day!
Central Hospital participates with Waggle, a pet specific crowd sourcing platform. One of our pet owners is raising funds for his puppy Patch to have surgery. Please click on the link to learn more and donate to Patch's fund raising campaign.
Patch has PDA (Patent ductus arteriosus). His un-oxygenated blood and oxygenated blood are mixing in his heart. He is currently 6 months old and only has about 6 months left to live. Patch will be having his surgery by Eric De Madron at Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine. He will have a double umbrella put into his heart. Once he has this surgery his doctor said he will live a full life!

Starting today we have stopped seeing patients at our Guilford location ONLY!!! This is just for the time being. The hospital will still remain staffed to take care of our hospitalized patients but anyone with an emergency should go to our North Haven location in the Crossroads Medical Center at 4 Devine Street. This is being done out of an abundance of caution due to the pandemic. We will notify everyone when we begin seeing patients in Guilford again. Stay Safe!!! Please Share!!

Lucy loves to workout in the underwater treadmill! Hydrotherapy is a great form of lower impact exercise for dogs! It is great for conditioning, weight loss, post operative strengthening and recovery and returning to function! This is just one of the many modalities we offer as part of a comprehensive physical rehabilitation plan for your pet! If you are interested in learning more about our physical rehabilitation services and how they can benefit your pet give our rehabilitation department at Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine a call at 203-867-5134
We can’t wait to hear from you!
