๐ From our Chai Lifeline family to yours, wishing you a Shana Tova and a sweet New Year!
Dear Chai Lifeline,
On this 19th anniversary of 9/11 my memory once again goes to our first interaction with Chai Lifeline. We will never forget the Chai Lifeline volunteers who tracked down a TV/VCR, Uncle Moishy videos, and kept us fed with kosher food for days after Kayla's (z"l) surgery was postponed at NYU Medical Center due to the horror of 9/11 and we were stuck in Manhattan. Of course you did so much more for us in the subsequent years during Kayla's myriad hospital stays at CHOP and St. Christopher's Hospital, and the other programs for kids and families. And then after we lost Kayla you were there for us with the bereavement retreats and resources. With Rosh Hashanah upcoming, we fondly remember how Kayla loved to freak out the nurses by showing them the fish head provided by Chai Lifeline to help us celebrate yuntiff while inpatient!
So we just want to wish you continued chizuk in your avodah kedoshah which is a true Kiddush haShem.
G'mar Tov,
Grateful Parents

Iโve been a fan of Dr. Anthony Fauci since the start of this pandemic but now he is a hero of mine. This extremely busy man took ten minutes out of his day last week to FaceTime with a sick teenager in the NIH (not his patient) who just wanted a selfie with him. (Full disclosure: the patient in this video is a relative of mine, and a terrific young man.) Fauci did not agree to a selfie (for social distancing reasons), but he offered to FaceTime with him, and they had a ten-minute conversation. Here is just a snippet of it, but itโs enough to demonstrate this man's exceptional humanity and genuineness. I found this very moving, and also reassuring, in these difficult days, to witness some pure goodness.

After hearing about Chai Lifeline New Jerseyโs Big Sister program from a friend who could not stop talking enthusiastically about how much she enjoys spending time with her Little Sister, Yael eagerly signed up to be a Big Sister, and could not be more grateful that she did. Every week, Yael spends time with her Little Brothers and Little Sister, creating a healthy and supportive outlet through fun and exciting activities, as well as running any errands the families might need. Yael also volunteers for Sunday morning Kids Connect Clubs, transporting children to and from the weekly outing, rain or shine. Yael understands that one small act of kindness, hug, or just a listening ear can empower them for the entire week.

Over the years Zach has served as a Big Brother, helped plan and organize events, and led ChaiEntourage programs for children in local hospitals. Most recently, Zach has helped launch the Student Executive Board for Chai Lifeline Mid-Atlantic, which provided volunteers with leadership opportunities while keeping them engaged and committed to the mission. Chai Lifeline welcomes Jack Tabbush as the inaugural director of Camp Simcha Without Borders. Launched during the COVID-19 pandemic, Camp Simcha Without Borders was developed to safely and innovatively deliver the magic of Camp Simcha to children and communities across the country.
โJack brings experience, excitement, and energy to this unique role,โ said Nachman Maimon, director of Camp Simcha. โHis creativity and passion will help Chai Lifeline continue to grow and strengthen the Camp Simcha Without Borders initiative to reach more children and impact more lives than ever before.โ
Tabbush has been part of the Camp Simcha family since 2014, when he first joined as a specialty staff member. In 2016, he was named division head for both Camp Simcha and Camp Simcha Special, Chai Lifelineโs respective summer programs for children with life-threatening and chronic illnesses.

Moshe Barnett got involved with Chai Lifeline NJ/PA purely by chance. Moshe's friend asked him join a Big Brother/Little Brother bowling trip after which Moshe was paired with his own Little Brother. They formed a close bond which is reflected in weekly outings they both greatly anticipate.
For the past two years, Moshe has volunteered as a Camp Simcha counselor and event coordinator for the NJ/PA region. Moshe uses his creativity to think up new and exciting events for our kids, such as night swimming and trips to Climb Zone. Chai Lifeline knows Moshe is the volunteer to call no matter how big or small the job may be. A story about a very special pair of tefillin....
We mostly buy tefillin before a boy turns 13, but we had these made when Eli was 5 years old, when he was diagnosed with leukemia the first time. The second time, almost 3 years later, we needed to leave to NY. Within 48 hours we were off to the city that never sleeps, the city of hopes and dreams. These tefillin were finished just in time to meet Eli at his new hospital. And they made him happy. Eli (7) was so excited, and as soon as he could, he asked the Rebbe, at the Ohel, for a blessing that he should wear them. Itโs been 8 years in the making and praying. Today, at the Ohel, these tefillin are as happy as we are, finally, for the FIRST TIME, fulfilling their purpose. THANK YOU to Hashem, the Rebbe, the Best Family โค๏ธAnd to our world wide warrior community, doctors and friends. THANK YOU to Gavriel, his brother and bone marrow transplant donor.
Mazel tov! Eli the brave
FIGHTER, SURVIVOR.
