In light of COVID-19 and the current shelter at home policy, we want you to know that we are considered an essential business and are available for your pet(s)’ medical needs. Our clinic is taking extra precautions to make sure that our clients and staff stay safe and healthy during this sensitive time. We are offering curbside appointments when preferred – we ask that you call when you arrive (303-688-3757) so we can discuss your pet(s)’ needs first. If you prefer to still enter the clinic, we offer immediate placement into one of our exam rooms, and are maintaining diligent hygiene and disinfection of all areas. If you are feeling ill, please try to have a friend or family member bring your pet in instead. We thank you for your understanding during this difficult time.
Your dog or cat may be a different species, but we all process and feel pain in much the same way. That’s why the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management has selected September as Animal Pain Awareness Month. In cooperation with veterinary professionals around the world, they hope to bring recognition to the issue of both acute and chronic pain in animals, and encourage pet owners to look for symptoms of pain and discomfort.
While acute or urgent pain is obvious, chronic pain can be subtle and pet owners may see it as simply “getting old” or “slowing down”. Some signs to look for include:
Heavy panting
Decreased activity
Reluctance to jump up on surfaces (cats)
Overgrooming or licking a particular area
Difficulty standing after lying down
At Cherished Companions we take treating pain seriously. If your pet is exhibiting any of the behaviors above, don’t hesitate to call us for an exam at (303) 688-3757
We are closed today for Labor Day. May you all have a safe holiday. If you have an emergency, please call Veterinary Specialists of the Rockies.
We will be back in tomorrow at 8am!
We will be closed on Monday, September 7th in observance of Labor Day. We hope you and your furry family enjoy the holiday! Even though summer is almost over, remember these tips to keep your pet safe:
☀️Never leave your pet in a car, even for a quick trip! On a sunny 70 degree day, your car can heat up to over 100 degrees in minutes. Hot asphalt will scorch your pet's paws-so if it's too hot for your bare feet, it's too hot for your pooch.
🏖Don’t let your dog drink lake water or river water. Water from lakes and rivers is often full of bacteria that can cause illness. If there’s a bloom of blue-green algae, your pet could be at risk of liver failure and nervous system damage if they ingest it.
🐶Check your pet for fleas and ticks. Your pet can get them from wildlife that comes through your yard. Although fleas and ticks can be anywhere on your pet’s body, they prefer posting up near the head, ears, neck and paws. You can spot evidence of fleas if you notice little black specks that resemble pepper or bits of dirt.
🌽Keep corn cobs out of reach from pets. We frequently see dogs get into trouble because they swallow a chunk of cob that gets lodged in their intestinal tract and causes a blockage. The moral of the story is obvious: Corn cobs belong in the garbage, well out of paw’s reach!
🇺🇸Happy 4th of July!🇺🇸
Have a very safe and fun day!
🎇🎆🎇
Please note we will be closed tomorrow in observance of Independence Day! We will be open again Monday the 6th at 8am.
It's the dog days of summer! Enjoy the longest day of the year!
