Dr. Cheryl Hurst is a licensed health psychologist and an experienced yoga therapist in Chicago, Illinois. When she integrates her psychotherapy service with yoga therapy in the Iyengar tradition, her clients benefit from a holistic treatment that improves physical strength, balance, flexibility, and circulation, while fostering ease and relaxation, relieving pain, and eliminating stress.
Dr. Hurst specializes in relieving pain and improving function for diverse conditions including back pain, shoulder pain, many types of sports injuries, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, polymyalgia rheumatica, fibromyalgia, arthritis, nerve damage, and sciatica.
Dr. Hurst received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Chicago, then her Master’s Degree in clinical psychology and her Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University. After serving as the senior program and research associate at Wellness House in Hinsdale, Illinois, Dr. Hurst continued her work in interdisciplinary holistic medical settings as a health psychologist on the BioBehavioral Mind-Spirit Team at the renowned Block Center for Integrative Cancer Treatment in Skokie, Illinois.
Dr. Hurst went on to pursue formal training in the integration of psychology and yoga, including intensives on teaching yoga from a trauma-informed perspective and the 32-Hour Certificate in Yoga-Informed Psychotherapy. Dr. Hurst is inspired and deeply honored to have more than 2,000 contact hours in ongoing intensive apprenticeship with Yoga Circle director and yoga therapeutics master Gabriel Halpern, named by Yoga Journal in the top “10 Most Influential Yoga Teachers in America.”
From 2013-2015, Dr. Hurst served as Vice President of the Visual Ecology and Psychotherapy Foundation. She is a member of the Illinois Psychological Association and the Emotional Transformation Therapy International Association.
