Dr. Christopher P. Kauffman is Board Certified with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is licensed to practice medicine in the states of Tennessee, Connecticut, and California. He maintains privileges at TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center and Premier Orthopaedics Surgery Center in Nashville, at TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center in Hermitage, TN, TriStar Summit Medical Center at TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center in Hendersonville, TN, and at Tennova Hospital in Lebanon, TN.
Dr. Kauffman completed a Fellowship in Spinal Surgery at the University of California at San Diego, CA (1998–1999). He served his Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey, Newark, NJ (1993–1998). His Medical Degree was awarded from State University of New York – Health Science Center at Brooklyn, Brooklyn, NY (1989 –1993). He earned a M.S. Degree from State University of New York at Buffalo, Buffalo, NY where he majored in Natural Sciences/Biology (1988–1989). His undergraduate degree was achieved at Cornell University, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Ithaca, NY with a major in Biology (1984–1988). He has been honored with numerous awards during his professional and educational experience.
Dr. Kauffman is an active member of the American Medical Association. He is also an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, serving on its Coding, Coverage, and Reimbursement Committee. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the North American Spine Society and has served on a number of its committees, including service as Chairman and Co-Chairman. He maintains an active membership in the Tennessee Medical Association. Additionally, he serves as an alternate representative to the Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement with AMA-NASS and is a Reviewer for Spine Journal.
Prior to joining Hughston Clinic Orthopaedics in January 2013, Dr. Kauffman was in private practice in Lebanon, TN. He was formerly an Adjunct Faculty member in the Department of Surgery, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. He was an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California at San Diego in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He previously practiced Spine Surgery and Orthopaedic Trauma as a member of The Orthopaedic Group, LLC in New Haven, CT. He also served as Clinical Instructor in Orthopaedic Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, as well at the University of California at San Diego.
