Consumer Credit Counseling Service and the Wichita community is lucky to have Jeff. He is always willing to help out wherever he can. He’ll stay late for a counseling session for someone in distress and teach classes on his weekends. I have very rarely heard Jeff turn down any request to do something even if it means he teaches a class to two people on a night that the Shockers play. Jeff is not only a great boss, but a great person. He gives great advice and truly cares about his staff. My favorite thing about Jeff is his ability to help so many different people and situations. He can talk just about anyone off a ledge. People come to Jeff to fix their problems and even if he cannot fix it he’ll make you feel better about your situation. One thing people may not know is that I am Jeff’s daughter. The coolest part of having him as a dad is going places and having people ask if he is my dad. I usually get a really cool story right after about how Jeff has helped them in some way or another. -Shea #HappyBirthday #KSCCCS #Wichita #ICT #nonprofit

Tax season is here and following the events of 2020, many are wanting to be prepared for 2021. One of the most frequent questions that is being asked: What should I do with my tax refund? - Start an emergency fund. The first step to financial freedom is to have an emergency fund established. Start with a goal of $1000 in your emergency fund and build from there. Reports show that 61% of Americans used their emergency funds in 2020. With tax season here, set some or all of the return aside to replenish your emergency fund. -Catch up on priorities. Make an extra payment on your vehicle, pay down on credit card debt. Review your budget and see what bills or debts need to be prioritized and if your tax refund can be applied to those priorities. -Pay on high interest debt. This will save you more money in the long run. The longer the interest accrues, the more you'll pay. -Stock up on groceries. Buy enough groceries to get you through a couple of weeks. This will also prevent you from feeling the urge to order take out. Visit our website our send us a private message to set up an appointment with one of our financial counselors. #KSCCCS #Wichita #Life #plan #debt #budget #payoff #creditcards #taxreturn #taxseason #money #moneysavingtips #emergencyfund #financial #financialfreedom #FinancialServices #financialliteracy #ict #Kansas #Ictlife #life #credit #creditrepair

Any time is the right time to get your finances under control. When starting a budget always use the SMART approach. -Be SPECIFIC. Write down your goals, lay out a detailed break down of your debt/ finances so that you can get a clear idea of where/ how to start. -Make your goals MEASURABLE. Start small. Instead of setting a goal for paying off debt. Find one small debt you want to pay off, credit card balances that you can start with. -Make them ACHIEVABLE. After you write down your goals, WRITE DOWN. a budget. Creating a budget will help you keep track of your SMART goals. Track your day-to-day, put your budget into categories, review last year's finances and compare. -Make them RELEVANT. Look at your current financial situation. Set financial goals that are relevant to you. Each individual goal should bring you one step closer to financial stability. -Make them TIME BASED. Each goal should have an end-date in sight. Hold yourself or those going on this financial journey with you, accountable. If you set an end-date to your budget plan, you'll be more likely to accomplish. #consumer #credit #counseling #budget #plans #SMART #Goals #finances #budgeting101 #money #newyear #ict #wichita #kansas #people #peoplehelpingpeople #money #local #moneytips

When it comes to winter weather, always make sure your vehicle is prepared for the cold temperatures. Here are a few tips to make sure you're ready for these (below zero) temperatures! - Check your tire pressure. Driving around with low tire pressure could mean premature tire wear or potential tread separation, which could lead to a major accident. Also, your car handles less predictably with underinflated tires. If you notice that your tire pressure is down, make sure to fill it at an air pump. -Top off Gas and Washer fluid. A full tank may prevent accumulated water from freezing inside your fuel pump and also, it will allow you to run your engine longer and keep you warm if you get stuck. Debris from winter weather can require constant window washing, which is why it is important to have washer fluid topped off in your vehicle at all times. -Test your defroster and heater. This will help you stay warm and prevent your windows from icing up. -Maintain your battery. Test your battery or buy a new one so that you are less likely to stay stranded in cold temperatures. - Flush and Fill coolant. Coolant, also known as antifreeze, keeps the engine from freezing in cold temperatures. Before you head into winter, make sure your car isn’t low on coolant. Also, check to see that there aren’t any leaks in your vehicle’s engine that could cause coolant to drain out. Many mechanics recommend drivers use a 50/50-mix of coolant and water in their radiator. This blend usually results in a lower engine freezing point than just coolant. -Pack a survival kit. Winter weather or not, a survival kit is a good idea. Purchase one that’s stocked with a blanket, a first-aid kit, a knife, a flashlight, jumper cables, and a cellphone charger that works in your vehicle’s cigarette lighter. -Check your lights. If a bulb is out, replace it, and if there’s snow covering any light, make sure you remove it before driving anywhere. If your headlights are foggy or yellow, consider replacing them or look into an easy restoration kit. #KSCCCS #Wichita #ICT #winter #weather #wichitalifeict #life #car #vehicle #moneysavingtips #budget #prepare #midwest #savings

The past year has taught us that we have to be as prepared as possible for the unexpected. While we all have future savings goals, having an emergency fund to support present unaccounted for needs, like a car breakdown, dental bill, or even a last minute fun treat should be a top priority. On this day we’ll focus on motivating individuals to prioritize building an emergency savings fund. What tools do you use to establish an emergency fund or save for the unexpected?
