Your friends at Daughters of Israel
Last week, Daughters of Israel residents and staff received special Rosh Hashana gift bags, to wish everyone happiness and health, and to thank staff for their hard work and dedication, as we marked the Jewish New Year! The project, headed by Etan Hindin, Director of Spiritual Care, and Yuki Rice-Faison, Director of Activities, was sponsored by members of the local community.
Etan Hindin, Director of Spiritual Care at Daughters of Israel, is preparing for Rosh Hashana with pre-recorded prayer services that will be broadcasted to resident rooms. In addition, on the second day of Rosh Hashana, he is arranging for a socially distant live shofar blowing and service, with Rabbi Richard Kirsch, for those residents who are interested. Shanah Tovah!
As you can see, our residents enjoyed celebrating Grandparents Day at Daughters this past Sunday!
During quarantine, Daughters of Israel’s “Adopt a Buddy” program has been giving some extra TLC to its residents. Pictured: Charney Glick shares a beautiful drawing with a message on it that she received from a local student.
DOI Residents enjoyed an action-packed Sukkot holiday, with lunch in the Sukkah catered by Rye Deli, a live concert with Liav Merlin of Livingston, and a pre-holiday guitar sing-along with Etan Hindin, Director of Spiritual Care, and Rabbi Richard Kirsch. Residents also received a set of the Arba Minim (Four Species), which consist of the etrog (citron), lulav (date palm), hadass (myrtle) and aravah (willow), which are tied together and waved during the Sukkot holiday.
Pictured: Etan Hindin, Director of Spiritual Care, explaining the significance of the Four Species to residents in the Sukkah.
It’s not everyday that our residents turn 101! Family and staff came together to celebrate our beloved Thelma Gottlieb’s 101st birthday, social distance style!
Resident Rosalyn Goldman and staff members disseminate information on Breast Cancer Awareness Day last week.
More than 350 goody bags were distributed to staff and residents over the holidays and New Year. The bags, which were made possible by the generosity of our board and community, included beautiful cards, designed and printed by board member and artist, Rachel Klinghoffer Marcus
More great pics from our New Years Day vaccinations!
Our residents were so excited to receive the vaccine today! Here are two "before and afters!" Stayed tuned for more pics!
So exciting! First round of staff vaccinations today at Daughters of Israel! Susan Grosser, Executive Director, receives the first vaccination and is pictured here interviewed by WNBC-TV, among other news stations.
Last delivery week of 2020 for the JCC Kosher Nutrition program “team.” Together they cooked and delivered 20,000 meals to Essex County seniors. They did not miss a meal 😊 Kudos to our dedicated Daughters of Israel Metro Transport drivers and Jewish Community Housing Corporations Plaza kitchen crew. Team Work Makes the Dream Work!
Wishing you all a Happy and Healthy 2021!
Happy 86th Myra…what’s your secret to looking 20 years younger?!
