RICHARD A. FEELY, DO, FAAO, AWARDED HIGHEST HONOR BESTOWED
BY NATIONAL OSTEOPATHIC MEDICAL ORGANIZATION
Indianapolis—Richard A. Feely, DO, FAAO, of Chicago, received the American Academy of Osteopathy’s highest honor on March 16 during the AAO’s Convocation in Orlando, Florida. Named the Andrew Taylor Still Medallion of Honor, the award is given to AAO members who have exhibited an exceptional understanding and application of osteopathic principles and concepts and for outstanding accomplishments in scientific or professional affairs. The award is named after Andrew Taylor Still, MD, DO, the founder of osteopathic medicine.
A 1978 graduate of the A. T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri, Dr. Feely maintains the Feely Center for Optimal Health with offices in downtown Chicago and Olympia Fields, Illinois. The Feely Center for Optimal Health is an integrative osteopathic medical practice that treats children with special needs as well as adults suffering from neuromusculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. The practice extends to medical legal work concerning soft tissue injuries, chart reviews, disability determinations, independent medical examinations, utilization review and quality assurance programs for TIVITY Health, Inc., as well with various insurance companies and law firms.
Dr. Feely also is an associate professor at the Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois, and he mentors residents at his office and at Franciscan Health in Olympia Fields. He is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine, the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians, the American Board of Medical Acupuncture, the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners, and the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians (ABQAURP). In addition, he has attained fellow status with the AAO, The Osteopathic Cranial Academy, the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture, the International Academy of Independent Medical Examiners and the ABQAURP.
In his continued commitment to teaching the next generation of osteopathic clinicians around the world, Dr. Feely has lectured extensively in Europe, Asia and North America. The focuses of his lectures are osteopathic cranial manipulative medicine, osteopathic principles and practices, osteopathic manipulative treatment, osteopathic manipulative medicine and acupuncture. During 2016 and 2017, Dr. Feely was a consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO) on Integrative Medicine at workshops in Macao to over 30 countries’ representatives on how to ensure quality traditional and complementary medicine services.
Dr. Feely has served the osteopathic profession as president of many organizations, including the AAO, the Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society, the Foundation for Osteopathic Research and Continuous Education, The Osteopathic Cranial Academy and the Osteopathic Cranial Academy Foundation, and he has shared his professional dedication with the Catholic church through work in Lourdes, France, and in Beirut, Lebanon. He is a Knight of Magisterial Grace in Obedience (KMOb) in the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Rhodes, and Malta, which is a Catholic religious lay order with a rich, 900-year history.
