Michelle For Flossmoor

Hello and welcome to another edition of Spotlight on Flossmoor Small Business! Last week, I sat down to get to know Dr. Greenebaum and his Marketing Director, Lori Tozer (also a Flossmoor resident), at The Center for Dental Excellence, LLC at 19615 Governors Highway. I thought I was meeting Dr. Greenebaum for the first time, however, it turned out that I've known him FOR YEARS as the friendly dog-walking neighbor from a few blocks away. I now have a name to go with his face and a huge appreciation for his business, community outreach, charitable heart, and love of Village of Flossmoor, Illinois. He's not just the dog-walking neighbor anymore.
To make an appointment, visit https://flossmoordental.com or call 708-798-1234.
----------------------------------
The Interview...
Michelle: Where did you grow up?
Dr. Greenebaum: I actually grew up in Flossmoor. I moved here in the 3rd grade and went to Flossmoor Hills Elementary School, Flossmoor Junior High School (now Parker Junior High School), and Homewood-Flossmoor High School. I went on to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Michelle: Where do you live now?
Dr. Greenebaum: My wife and I moved back to Flossmoor in 1985 and raised two children who went through the local school system.
Michelle: Did you always want to be a dentist?
Dr. Greenebaum: Yes, because my father was a dentist. I grew up with it and saw how my father helped people and how much patients loved him.
Michelle: When did you start your practice?
Dr. Greenebaum: I joined my father in 1982. We had three treatment rooms and were located in Chicago Heights.
Michelle: When did you move your business to Flossmoor?
Dr. Greenebaum: In 1999, my partner , Dr. Cary Goldberg and I, merged our practices and built the original building on Governors Highway. We then had 9 treatment rooms and always had a dream of having all specialties under one roof. Not only would we be able to provide the best treatment for our patients, it would also be much more convenient and comfortable (painless!) coming to one office where they know us, we know them, fewer forms to complete, etc. Then, we started to outgrow our space .
In 2019, we fulfilled our vision of having all Dental Specialists under one roof and now have 21 treatment rooms .
Michelle: Not many dentists offer one-stop shopping. How were you able to pull that off?
Dr. Greenebaum: It is definitely unique, but it's also the wave of the future. It was a lot to engineer and figure out, but we did it!
Michelle: What services do you provide?
Dr. Greenebaum: We provide all dental services, ranging from general dentistry to root canals, implants, wisdom teeth extraction, braces, Invisalign, cosmetics, gum treatment and pediatric dentistry. Treatment is rarely independent. By having all specialists here, we can develop complex plans and decide on the best course of treatment for each patient based on their individual needs and wants.
Michelle: How has COVID changed your practice?
Dr. Greenebaum: We had a state-of-the-art building before, but during COVID it's even more state of the art. We installed special filters and vacuums to protect our patients who are happy to see us and feel safe and comfortable here. It's a good feeling to have their trust.
Michelle: How has your location on Governors Highway helped you grow your practice?
Dr. Greenebaum: There are a substantial number of cars that pass us each day. (I checked...11,700 cars drive that stretch of Governors Highway daily.) That and the allowance of the sign and access to parking have helped grow our business.
Michelle: You have a car named “Flossey” driving around town. Whose idea was that and where can "she" be seen?
Dr. Greenebaum: Dr. Goldberg and I came up with it in 2014 as a marketing idea. We wanted something that could go around with us in the community. In a few weeks, she's going to lead a walk that honors the memory of Dawn Brancheau, the sister of one of our longtime dental hygienists and Flossmoor resident, Darlyne . https://www.dawnsfoundation.org/events/
Lori: Flossey has also been seen promoting local businesses, the Flossmoor Service League House Walk and the Flossmoor Art Commission's Sculpture Walk.
Michelle: I see you supporting so many community organizations. What local organizations do you support?
Lori: We love supporting what matters to our patients. Dentistry From the Heart - Free Dentistry For People in Need! is one of our biggest events. We take care of over 100 disadvantaged patients in one day! Maureen Mader from Dunning's Gourmet Market and Deli -est 1958 donates food for our volunteers for the event. We have also supported local fundraisers for Flossmoor Baseball & Softball, Flossmoor Service League, Glenwood Academy, HF High School, Homewood Foundation 153, Homewood Area Chamber of Commerce - HACC, Irons Oaks Environmental Learning Center, The Cancer Support Center, South Suburban PADS, South Suburban Family Shelter, Children's Museum in Oak Lawn, Prairie State College, Village of Flossmoor, South Suburban Humane Society, Tall Grass Arts Association, Tritown Pop Warner, Respond Now, Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, Grande Prairie Singers, and several temples and churches.
Dr. Greenebaum: We try to give back...how can you not help?
Michelle: Wow, that's putting it mildly! You are definitely giving back! Are you accepting new patients?
Dr. Greenebaum: Always!
Michelle: What do you like to do when you're not working?
Dr. Greenebaum: I walk the dog, golf, spend time with my family, garden, and play the piano.
Michelle: What gives you hope?
Dr. Greenebaum: Faith in people... and I see it every day in the great attitudes of our patients and team members.
Lori: Joy is a discipline of perception.
