Looks like lots of snow no matter where you live. Please BE CAREFUL if you have to be out on the roads. ❄️ Dayton Weather Spot 20 hrs · Monday, 2/15/21 4:00PM: There's nothing I hate more than having to revise a map, except for misinformation to rule the day, and my old map is quickly becoming a source of misinformation for some. The storm dragged a bit more slowly out of Alabama and through Tennessee today, allowing it to pick up extra heat and moisture. It's the exact scenario I warned about in in the "What could go wrong with this map" section describing my last map. Indeed reality played out almost exactly as I described it might, and while at the time it looked like a low probability, at this point it appears to be the prevailing mindset on models that are actually matching radar returns. Also note that an inch or two of snow has already fallen across much of the area, and this map is for 4PM and forward (not counting what has already fallen), which also accounts for totals on this map dropping from yesterday's map. Warmer air will pull in aloft, not only reducing precious fat would-be dendrite snowflakes in the southeastern part of our area into smaller rods and cylinders that lie flatter on the ground, but melting many of those snowflakes altogether into small ice pellets (sleet) that are literally the lowest-accumulating form of snow/ice we can get. This will squash snowfall totals during parts of this storm in areas east of my red line on this map...perhaps even into places on the other side of that line. Areas near and south of I-71 won't see nearly the accumulation that appeared almost certain as of 18 hours ago. This will be my last map for this storm, pass or fail. Tomorrow I will be looking ahead at the next storm (Thursday/Friday), and will likely have a map or a post describing that system's range of expectations by Wednesday evening. Be safe out there, as no matter how much snow you do or don't get tonight, roads are likely to be nasty in the morning. [Dan]
