Periodontal disease is the most common dental issue in dogs and cats, and you can see early onset in pets as young as 3 years old! Dental scaling and polishing, is a procedure we can perform to give your pet the best dental care and an even healthier future! Scaling removes plaque and tartar, and is then followed up by polishing (just like we humans receive from our dentists!). Since most dental disease occurs below the gum line, dental x-rays play an important role in a successful dental procedure. By visualizing the bony structures below the gum line, x-rays give our doctors the ability to see where there are pockets of infection, deterioration (or bone loss), and even fractures!
