Omaha Public Power District is asking customers to conserve energy due to the extremely cold weather we are experiencing. Learn more at http://ow.ly/RbS450DA83F. Omaha Public Power District February 15 at 12:20 AM · We need your help conserving energy—NOW. The bitter cold temperatures have increased demand for energy across the Plains region, even south into Texas and Oklahoma. Much as it does in summer, high demand can put additional strain on our system. We are seeing similar effects now, only this time with record cold instead of heat. The Southwest Power Pool (SPP), the regional transmission organization who oversees the power grid for its members – of which OPPD is one – is asking all member organizations to begin energy conservation measures by 11:59 p.m., Sunday. SPP declared an Energy Emergency Alert as record cold conditions settled across the region, and is seeking help from its member organizations to balance what is currently peak demand for winter months. Today, in honor of Black History Month, our staff had the opportunity to learn more about the history of African Americans in our community during a virtual tour of the Great Plains Black History Museum. The well curated exhibits at GPBHM and Executive Director Eric Ewing do an excellent job of sharing the often untold stories of our community through an African American lens. We highly recommend scheduling a virtual or in-person tour of this great local resource today! https://gpblackhistorymuseum.org/
As we celebrate Black History, we’re taking the opportunity to highlight the achievements of African Americans and recognize their central role in American history. All too often, only the most negative aspects of African American culture and communities get highlighted. This month, we want to honor some of the best. Today, our Public Affairs and Advocacy Director, Tracie McPherson, was in Lincoln to testify in support of LB 449. This legislation would provide additional funds to help more local families with low to moderate incomes weatherize their homes. As we work with households through our Weatherization Program, we see first-hand the impact that these updates make in families’ lives. Not only does weatherization help reduce heating and cooling costs, but it also improves families' health and safety. We urge members of the Appropriations Committee to support LB 449. Pictured here: Omaha Public Power District's Sr. Product Specialist-Customer Advocacy Programs, Britton Gabel, testifying in support of LB 449 as well.

Two years ago, Cynethia couldn’t stop smiling as she realized her dream of becoming a homeowner had finally come true.
During our latest Cost of Home Conversation, Bellevue Mayor Rusty Hike shared that one of the biggest challenges for homebuyers is finding affordably priced houses on the market. Not only did the floods of 2019 take out many of these homes, but the increasing cost of materials and land is making rebuilding more expensive. This year, our goal is to build or renovate 12 homes in Sarpy County, including one through the Women Build program. #WomenBuild #BuildHer HABITATOMAHA.ORG Opportunities in Bellevue: Cost of Home Conversation | Habitat for Humanity of Omaha
