Happy National Voter Registration Day! In Nebraska, voters need to re-register to vote when they change their name, home address, and/or political party affiliation. Voters are not required to re-register prior to every election. Submitting voter registration applications when there have been no changes is unnecessary. More info about voter registration here: https://www.votedouglascounty.com/voter_registration.aspx

Gladys L Harrison, Owner of Big Mama's Kitchen And Catering
What is your passion?
I am passionate about bringing people together. We are all connected, and when we work together, change happens.
Who or what inspired you to take this path?
I inherited this passion from my mother, Patricia Big Mama Barron, and watching her utilizing food as a bridge-builder to bring people together.
What is your favorite quote from a historical black figure and why?
"Never to forget where we came from and always praise the bridges that carried us over." - Fannie Lou Hamer, Human Rights Activist
Fannie Lou Hamer is my favorite quote because remembering our past, the who, what, when, and why gives us a foundation to move forward. It reminds us that we have a duty to ourselves, those who came before us and those who will come after to continue building bridges to provide a path for ourselves and others that enables us to carry us over.
Why do you think Black History is important?
Black History is important because the history of the world does not exist without Black History.
