I just loved watching this! Such a wonderful birth-day! DrewBee Edits posted a video to playlist Birth Videos — with Anna Lee Heintzelman and 2 others at Heart 2 Heart Birth Center. September 24 at 3:51 PM · Sanford, FL · My passion for birth videos started right here, with the birth of my daughter Drew. I wanted a hospital birth with doctors, monitors and nurses. It wasn't untill I took classes with my wife and swallowed my pride that we decided to go with a water birth. I saw how important it was to my wife so I trusted in her and the amazing women who brought our beautiful daughter into this world. I hope this video inspires others to trust their bodies and try a natural birth. As a father my mind has been changed and now I can not imagine a more beautiful way to bring new life into this world. However any and all births are beautiful whether its at home, at the hospital or birth center and I would be honored to edit your video.
I had this during my first pregnancy. It was very confusing. Am I in labor? Am I not in labor? Is this normal? Gosh I think I’m glad the internet wasn’t around back then (except for good articles like this!). Have you experienced this? Tell us about your experience! "If the 15,574 women who planned to give birth in birth centers had instead chosen hospital births, it is estimated that they would have experienced 3,000 additional - and unnecessary - Cesareans. Instead, these c-sections were safely and effectively prevented, along with a potential cost-savings of at least $4.5 million” @ebbirth summary of the American Association of Birth Center's groundbreaking National Birth Center Study II in 2013. Did you know that midwifery is an ancient practice? While we now have many more tools and infinitely more knowledge about pregnancy, labor and delivery, one thing remains the same: Midwives hold a special place in the sacred act of delivering a baby. Some tips and tricks when you’re exhausted from your team @heart2heartbirthcenter!! #birthcenterbirth #midwives #naturalbirth Repost from @moomysmilk “As you will inevitably learn, babies cry a lot. Sometimes, the reason is obvious: Baby is hungry, wet, or tired, and wants you to address her needs. Other times, getting the tears to stop is not such a simple process. That's why figuring out how to soothe and calm a baby when nothing else seems to do the trick is so important. While no single method works for all babies, you'll soon develop a repertoire of techniques that's perfect for your child.” What helps your baby calm down? Maybe it’s a drive around the block? Or rocking on the rocking chair? Tell us below ⬇️

We have two car seat specialists associated with Heart 2 Heart and we highly recommend that you check your car seat safety knowledge for your infants safety! Maddison JM December 2 at 10:03 PM · If your kid wouldn’t be secure in a roll over, they aren’t secure enough. I stress car seat safety because it’s SO important and it’s done improperly SO often. Being in a car is the most dangerous thing your child will do in a day, wouldn’t you do anything to ensure they’re as safe as they can possibly be? Why so many people brush it off as no big deal, I’ll never understand. Today someone reached out to me about what car seat to use/how to use them and it made me so happy. And I think it’s admirable anytime someone does. Why I share information so often, I want to be a resource. And if I don’t know, I’ll do my best to find out or ask someone who does. Because it doesn’t matter if it’s your kid, your friends kid, your nephew, or your uncles step kid, if you’re transporting a child in your vehicle – you need to know how to use their car seat correctly. Some things to keep in mind 👇🏼 * Keep your child rear facing as long as their car seat allows. Turning forward facing isn’t a milestone at a certain age. If they are still within height/weight limits, they should continue to be rear facing. Kids are nimble, they won’t be uncomfortable. “Rear facing is not a choice to be made based on parenting style or opinion; it’s one based on scientific fact. The more we know about physics and physiology, the better we’re able to protect our kids from severe injury as a result of a crash.” * Make sure your child is in the *right* car seat for their age. That means being in a 5 point harness until they max out those limits. A seat belt or riding without a booster is also not a milestone to be done at any particular age. * No puffy coats in the winter. You can warm up your car before you get in it, put their coat on until you reach the car, and put their coat on backwards once they’re strapped in. * While RF, straps should come from at or below the shoulders and the chest clip should be at underarm level. * While FF, straps should come from at or above the shoulders and the chest clip should be at underarm level. When FF you must also use the top tether. * No aftermarket products should be used with your car seat at anytime. * Even if your car seat came with strap covers, do not use them if they interfere with proper chest clip placement. * Anchors have weight limits, make sure when your child meets that limit that you switch to a seat belt install. Additionally, do not use both the latch and seat belt at the same time. * Straps need to be tight. Yes, even on the baby you’re bringing home from the hospital. To be sure they’re tight enough do the pinch test or reverse pinch test. * If you want someone to check your install, you need to schedule an appointment with a CPST, not a firefighter/police officer (unless they are certified.) Here’s a good article to read if you’re curious about why staying RF is so crucial. Also if you flipped your child too soon, there’s nothing saying you can’t flip them back! 🙌🏼 https://csftl.org/why-rear-facing-the-science-junkies-guide/ #KnowBetterDoBetter #KeepAllTheBabesSafe #CarSeatSafetyAdvocate

This. Hermine Hayes-Klein is with Jennifer Sue Justice Gallardo and 2 others. December 2 at 2:30 PM · A True Midwife is a kind of shaman for her community. A shaman is a person who lives with one foot in nature/spirit, and one foot in human society. The True Midwives I have known are a human bridge between those worlds. In the birth room, they weave a web (of oxytocin?) that holds everybody in it, that supports the birthing woman, and into which the baby is born. Because the True Midwife bridges nature and culture, spirit and body, her support enables the birthing woman to let nature/spirit do its work through her body. This is the kind of person who should be in the room when a baby is getting born. As my own Medicine Woman Midwife Laura van Deth once said to me, "Hermine, there are moments in life that really matter, like when you are being born, when you are dying, and when you are giving birth. And at moments like that, the question is, Who is in the room? And what are they doing?" I was blessed to give birth with a True Midwife, and I have had the honor of knowing, defending, and advocating for many more. Once you have known midwives like these, you look at the uptight, closed-off OBs and medwives who are attending most births, and find it shocking that any woman would let them be in the room while she's giving birth. But that's why I am a lawyer for midwives: because True Midwives are barely allowed to exist, hunted down for daring to support women on their terms. True Midwives answer a calling and have to fight hard, for years, to be able to do their work, and these are midwives, not warriors. The midwives who should be attending childbirth are persecuted and driven out of maternity care by the doctors who want to be the only ones attending childbirth, but have no idea how to do so in a way that works with the female body instead of against it, and no real interest in learning. Sure, there are a few doctors who practice like True Midwives-- Brad Bootstaylor, I'm looking at you. But for the most part, the people who practice like True Midwives are midwives-- and I'll be honest, they're usually the older midwives. Around the world, and especially in the US, there are not enough midwives, as a result of state enforcement of medical monopoly. This will only change when women stand up for their right to midwifery care. If women knew what childbirth is like when they are loved and genuinely supported on their terms, they would stand up for that right. As Tanzanian journalist Kenneth Simbaya said at my 2015 Human Rights in Childbirth: Africa conference, "When people know what they have the right to expect, they have the audacity to demand it." May every healer who feels a calling to midwifery find the courage to ground her power in the Earth, and to work with spirit in the way that serves her community. May organized medicine finally get out of the way of midwifery and take its rightful place in maternity care: backing up midwives and providing medical assistance when it is actually wanted and needed. Only then will every birthing person have the opportunity to maximize the chance for a normal, healthy birth, and be assured that medical assistance is there if it becomes necessary. ❤️🙏❤️ (Frederick Leighton, "The Return of Persephone," 1891.)
One of the many benefits of delivering at a birth center is the amount of continuous support you receive throughout pregnancy and birth. Studies also show that having continuous support, such as a doula, greatly increase levels of satisfaction with your birth experience. And we allow doulas, unlike many area hospitals! SEE BABY December 7 at 12:05 PM · Repost• @badassmotherbirther . ❤️𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐔𝐌𝐁𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐋 𝐂𝐎𝐑𝐃❤️ ❖ The umbilical cord is a conduit between the developing baby and the placenta. ❖ The umbilical contains: 2️⃣arteries(umbilical arteries) 1️⃣vein(umbilical vein) These are are buried within Wharton's jelly that all beautifully form the umbilical cord. ❖ The umbilical cord develops from the yolk sac and allantois. It forms by the 5th week of pregnancy, replacing the yolk sac as the source of nutrients for the baby. The cord is not directly connected to the parent’s circulatory system, but instead joins the placenta, which transfers materials to and from the parental blood without allowing direct mixing. ❖ The umbilical cord in a full term baby is usually about 20 inches long and about 0.75 inches in diameter. ❖ The blood flow through the umbilical cord is approximately 35 ml / min at 20 weeks, and 240 ml / min at 40 weeks of gestation. Adapted to the weight of the baby, this corresponds to 115 ml / min / kg at 20 weeks and 64 ml / min / kg at 40 weeks. ❖ The umbilical cord enters the baby via the abdomen, at the point which (after separation) will become the baby’s belly button. ❖ Within the baby, the umbilical vein continues towards the transverse fissure of the liver, where it splits into two. One of these branches joins with the hepatic portal vein (connecting to its left branch), which carries blood into the liver. The second branch (known as the ductus venosus) bypasses the liver and flows into the inferior vena cava, which carries blood towards the heart. The two umbilical arteries branch from the internal iliac arteries, and pass on either side of the urinary bladder into the umbilical cord, completing the circuit back to the placenta. ❖ The umbilical vein supplies the baby with oxygenated, nutrient-rich blood from the placenta. The baby’s heart pumps deoxygenated, nutrient-depleted blood through the umbilical arteries and back to the placenta. ❖ THE UMBILICAL CORD IS PERFECTLY DESIGNED TO MAKE A GORGEOUS EXCHANGE OF GOOD THINGS COMING IN AND BAD THINGS GOING OUT. ❖ Words: @badassmotherbirther PhotoCred: @eletfababapraxis

How did you feel having the straps on throughout your labor? I had my babies in a birth center, so they used intermittent Doppler monitoring, so I want to hear your opinion. MACLEANS.CA The use of electronic fetal monitoring is expanding into Africa—and that's a problem - Macleans.ca

Each birthing suite at H2H is named after someone who has changed the birth landscape, been an advocate for their community, and supported midwifery care. This is William B Newman. He was a local OB and lawyer, and delivered over 10,000 babies throughout his career. He was a supporter of midwives, and helped our owner, Michelle, open Heart 2 Heart. He always focused on uplifting his community, showing less fortunate children the possibilities life could bring. He was beloved, a true hero, and his spirit lives on inside our walls. We try and emulate his love of birth, his care of birthing families, and love of his community. ❤️❤️❤️ #midwiferycare #birthcenterbirth #sanfordflorida

To honor Black History Month, we want to highlight the history of midwifery care in Florida. From the 1930’s to the 1960’s, primarily black midwives served primarily black and poor rural white families due to inadequate access to medical care and rampant segregation. The contribution of these women to their communities and the midwifery profession as a whole should be praised and respected in perpetuity. We honor these women, and promise to continue to be an inclusive birth center. We will continue to highlight groundbreaking black midwives, OB’s, and others who have impacted the birth world. ❤️❤️❤️ #midwiferycare #blackhistorymonth #birthcenterbirth

Midwife Marley February 4 at 1:54 AM · Instagram · During labour, make sure you try and pee as often as you can. Sometimes having a full bladder can have an impact on the baby's ability to descend effectively into the pelvis. I've cared for countless women during labour where things have slowed down a little at the end. After being encouraged to go to the toilet to empty the bladder, the baby is often born almost immediately! Caring for your bladder during birth is so important. You can prevent pelvic floor problems later on by not allowing it to become overly distended

Gladys Milton (1924-1999). Gladys Milton delivered ~3000 babies during her monumental midwifery career. Her work led to her induction into the Florida Women’s Hall of Fame in 1994 and, posthumously, into Okaloosa County Women’s Hall of Fame in 2001. Her legacy continues at the Milton Memorial Birthing Center through her daughter and fellow midwife, Maria Milton. She is regarded as a hero and pioneer, advocating for women who could not afford the cost of hospital care. She also promoted literacy within her community, and a branch of the Walton County library is named in her honor. At the core of her work, she was a midwife who cared deeply for women, who championed their right to control their birth experience, elevating the midwifery model of care. A birthing suite at Heart 2 Heart is named in her honor. ❤️❤️❤️ #blackhistorymonth #midwiferycare #birthingcenter
Brooke Simmons Lactation Services 14 hrs · Today I saw a lovely sweet new family with a fresh new babe who was just a little over 24hrs old. There is something so amazing about a new family. They have have glow about them. They are in that “we are so in love with this new baby and yet we are exhausted stage”. This newbie babe is latching on beautifully and feeding well. I did teach mama how to use her pump though. She pumped after babe had nursed from both breasts. And this amazing liquid gold is what we collected!!! #liquidgold #colostrum #freshnewbaby #ibclc #lactationconsultant #breastfeeding #supportmoms #birthcenterbirth #heart2heartbirthcenter
I’m just gonna leave this right here. As I read it, personally, it made me uncomfortable. Because it’s how I have lived my life as a woman, a mom, a wife, a partner. Overwhelmed and sometimes frustrated by a lack of equality in my home life. And reading this made me realize how much I put on myself and I don’t simply ask for help, I assume it’s all my responsibility. Anyways, watch it and tell me your opinion! Project Teenbirth, Inc. February 27 at 2:24 PM · 𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗽𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. ⁣ ⁣ Media portrays birth as your water breaks and then within minutes or hours later you have a baby, or that it’s time to push when your cervix is fully dilated (open) to 10cm. However, that’s not really the case all of the time. There’s a lot more that goes into your body being ready to birth your baby. ⁣ ⁣ During labor there are many components that must align in order for you to bring your baby earth-side. Yes, your cervix must dilate (open) to 10cm and efface (thin out) to 100%, but baby must also be well engaged in your pelvis making its way down the birth canal. This is where pelvic station comes in.⁣ ⁣ Pelvic station is tracked by negative and positive numbers ranging from -3 (pelvic inlet) to +3 (pelvic outlet) If you’re 10cm but your baby is still high in your pelvis, we wouldn’t recommend automatically pushing. Instead, allowing your body to labor baby down on its own, saving your energy for when you’re really ready to push, is ideal.⁣ ⁣ 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙪𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙡𝙫𝙞𝙘 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣. I agree. I hear more parents say they had concerns over finances, job security, and even just not wanting to risk pregnancy with possible illness or being alone in a hospital as reasons why families were postponing pregnancies this year. Did you or do currently have these thoughts or feelings? If you had a baby during pandemic, what were your concerns? Were they validated or were they resolved by your own specific conditions? heymama Yesterday at 1:58 PM · “Preliminary reports show the assumptions around a "Pandemic Baby Boom" were way wrong. Five states have reportedly seen large declines in births nine months after the US declared the coronavirus a national emergency. And a separate survey found that one-third of women wanted to delay pregnancy or have fewer children because of the pandemic. While some are surprised, others are saying 'hi, take a look at the economy and general uncertainty over health and safety.' It's also worth noting that women have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic because of things like job losses and additional caregiving responsibilities. All of which is not helping.” -The Skimm
