Kalamata Bistro, Bombs Away Cafe, The Brass Monkey, and Forks and Corks Catering have joined forces with a generous donation from Van Vleet Meat to supply several thousand meals to evacuees over the next few days.
A message from the folks making thousands of burritos:
"While we are forced to close the doors of our restaurants, we are extremely humbled to be able to redirect our time, energy and resources to uplifting our community in this extremely difficult time.
Gratefully,
Jacob, Jeff, Morgan, & Kate"
Farmers with produce that will go to waste are encouraged to contact Forks & Corks catering. IOU will do our best to purchase your product and Forks & Corks will create delicious, locally produced meals for evacuees. Please note Forks & Corks cannot take garden produce. Edit: 9/11 2:45 Forks and Corks has enough produce for now. Follow this post for updates and we will post when they need more!
This is an effort to reduce food waste, show community support to our neighbors displaced by fires, and allow our community restaurants to recuperate some of their lost revenue from yet another economic blow.
IOU is asking for donations to support the businesses and producers that participate in donating these meals to evacuees - you have already donated $15,000 and we are cutting the first checks today to begin reimbursements.
