About

Immigration law has been described as a labyrinth, written with a complexity that challenges even experienced attorneys. Without effective legal advice on Immigration law: People dealing with our Immigration system risk permanent separation from their families and livelihood; Businesses face loss of essential employees; Refugees face return to countries where their lives are at risk. I have helped people, businesses, and non-profit organizations in Oregon and Southwest Washington navigate the U.S. immigration system since 1977. I have had my own law office in downtown Portland, Oregon since 1980. Currently, nearly all of my law practice is devoted to immigration matters. I have represented individuals and businesses from nearly every country in the world. I am fluent in Spanish. I have two legal assistants, one of whom is bilingual in English and Spanish. My work covers all aspects of U.S. immigration law including: Family-based Immigrant visa ("green card") petitions for people who have ties based on blood relationship or marriage to U.S. Citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents; Applications filed in the United States for Adjustment of Status to legal resident as well as applications filed at U.S. Consulates and Embassies outside the United States for Immigrant Visas Employment-based immigrant and non immigrant applications in visa categories such as: H-1B specialty occupations, L-1 intra company transfers for employees of multi-national corporations, E-1/E-2 treaty traders and investors, Alien Labor Certification applications and National Interest Waivers for employees with exceptional ability; Assisting people in obtaining U.S. citizenship, either by applying for naturalization or by proving that they have inherited "derivative" citizenship; Defending people facing removal (deportation) hearings in Immigration Court, before the Board of Immigration Appeals and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit; Advising criminal defense attorneys on the potential immigration consequences to their clients of a criminal conviction; I-601 and I-212 Waivers of Inadmissibility, which are like pardons, for people whose family members will face "extreme hardship" if the waiver application is not approved; and Political asylum for people fearing persecution in their home countries. I have obtained asylum for people from Ethiopia, Ghana, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Poland and Rwanda. Call us today!
