If you see something like the image below in a home you're looking to purchase, beware! Many insurance companies will not insure a house with visible knob-and-tube wiring. This wiring method was popular from around 1880 to the 1940s, and can sometimes cause safety issues due to its age or improper modifications. It is not permitted in new constructions.
