Psychiatry, Psychiatrist
I am a native of Virginia and grew up outside of Lynchburg. I began working in healthcare at the age of 16 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. I was graduated valedictorian of my class at Lynchburg University, and then attended Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. I completed a General Psychiatry Residency at VCU Health and a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Virginia Treatment Center for Children. I joined the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University as a Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics. I have been treating patients for over 30 years and developed innovative psychiatric interventions. I oversaw the developmen of a new curriculum for the medical school. I also taught/trained medical students, psychiatry residents and child psychiatry fellows on the neuroanatomical, neurophysiological and neurochemical basis of behavior in health and illness.
I have been involved nationally in the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. I help to prepare the United States Medical Licensing Examination for physicians.
I believe that it is of utmost importance that I develop a relationship with my patients based on sensitivity, compassion and trust. I will never tell you what to do--we work together to look at the various treatment options, individualizing the unique plan based on your needs.
