Dr. Cruz received his medical degree from Ignacio A. Santos School of Medicine at Instituto Tecnolgico de Estudios Superiores in Monterrey, Mexico. He also completed a research fellowship in critical care medicine at Instituto Nacional de la Nutricin in Mexico City, Mexico. Dr. Cruz completed his internal medicine residency in Mexico at University Hospital of the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Monterrey prior to completing a postgraduate internship and residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas.
He completed his fellowship in medical oncology/hematology and bone marrow transplantation at University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas. Following his fellowship, Dr. Cruz served as the Director of the Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center University Medical Center in Lubbock.
Dr. Cruz then joined the hematology/oncology staff at Joe Arrington Cancer Research and Treatment Center in Lubbock. Five years later he became the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Program Director at Covenant Health System in Lubbock before joining Texas Transplant Institute.
Dr. Cruz belongs to a number of professional organizations including American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, American Society of Hematology, American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation and American Society of Clinical Oncology.
