After completing her undergraduate studies in biological sciences at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Dr. Hall earned her medical degree from the University of California School of Medicine in San Francisco. She completed her residency in adult psychiatry at the University of California Los Angeles/Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior. During her fellowship at the same institute, she focused on child and adolescent psychiatry.

She has experience and training in psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, mentalization based therapy and structured family therapy.
