Kinfolk Family Health in Montclair, New Jersey, is the heart and soul of Rakiyah Jones, DNP, FNP-BC, or Dr. Kai as his patients call him. A native of Newark, New Jersey, Dr. Kai is a nurse practitioner who developed a passion for community and health early on, with a desire to bring accessible care to urban communities. At Kinfolk Family Health, he provides membership-based personalized primary care focused on health and wellness for underserved, LGBT, and Veteran communities. Dr. Kai wants to raise awareness for the unacknowledged and unanswered needs of People of Color, Veterans, and Transgender and Gender-nonconforming communities.
After earning his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey, Dr. Kai went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the former University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), now Rutgers University - Newark. To further his education, Dr. Kai earned dual master’s degrees in business administration and public health at Liberty University School of Business in Lynchburg, Virginia.
He completed a post master's certificate in adult-gerontology and acute care nurse practitioner at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Dr. Kai completed his academic coursework at Columbia University in New York City, earning both a master’s degree in family nurse practitioner and palliative and end-of-life care, as well as a Doctorate in Nursing Practice. Dr. Kai served his country on active duty as a Commission Officer in the Army Nurse Corps and continues to serve as a Captain in the Army Reserves.
