What’s going on now is uncertain, that’s for sure. But one thing we know is that we must protect our clients rights at all costs.

Terry Lynn King v. State of Tennessee
Our office meeting today!
We understand that this is a challenging time for many of our clients as well as friends, family, and neighbors. Please rest assured that Knox Defense remains open for business and we are continuing to zealously represent each and every one of our clients. We want you to know that Jeff, Jonathan, Josh, Cullen, Melissa, and Zoie remain available to help as always.
That said, we are also taking the advice of our government leaders and experts seriously and are doing everything we can to maintain good hygiene practices, social distancing, etc.
We will continue to monitor court closings and other status updates and advise our clients how these changes affect your cases. And as always, do not hesitate to call or email us if you have any questions or if we can assist you in any way.
We hope you are all staying safe and well,
Knox Defense
As you may have read, the Tennessee Supreme Court has suspended all "in-person proceedings." This means that essentially all civil and criminal cases will be postponed until the suspension ends, currently scheduled for March 31.
For our clients who are released on bail, we will notify you of your new court date. For clients who are being detained pre-trial, please know that we will do everything possible to secure your release.
Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about this extraordinary suspension of court or if you need more information about a criminal matter.
Congratulations to Knox Defense partner Joshua Hedrick who won a dismissal for his client charged with racketeering in Hamilton County Criminal Court. Mr. Hedrick’s client was charged in two counts: one accusing him of racketeering and one accusing him of conspiracy to commit racketeering. Last year the trial court granted Mr. Hedrick’s motion to dismiss the first count and today the trial court granted Mr. Hedrick’s motion to dismiss the second count.
The charges were dismissed because the indictment, or charging document, did not meet the requirements of the law. If you’re facing a criminal charge, get someone who will protect your rights and make sure the government plays by the rules.
We’re proud of a job well done by partner Cullen Wojcik and his co-counsel Ben Vernia for their success at the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Today the Court ruled that their client, Heather Jones, did not receive a fair trial and reversed her conviction.
Sometimes you have to force the Government to play fair. If you’re in that kind of situation, call us. We know what to do to protect your rights.

Twenty years ago yesterday, Jonathan Cooper joined Jeff Whitt in the law firm that is now known as Knox Defense. Little did we know when we teamed up where this journey would take us. It has been a fast, wonderful, and successful two decades, and we look forward to the next 20 years!
