We live in a democracy, where we are free to vote for the candidates of our choice - but it is not always that easy. In 2018, 100 million people - just under a third of our population - did not vote on Election Day. Many cited difficulties leaving work.
Employees and organizations can step up and make it easy for employees to vote.
There are several states that declare Election Day a state holiday, and employers must allow employees to vote, without losing pay from work. But this is not the case everywhere.

This is Ticia from Legal Locator Service in Lake Oswego, Oregon.
I haven’t written to you in about, oh, maybe 50 years, give or take - wait, I am only 39, so that doesn’t make sense.
Anyhoo.
I am writing this year because I really think there are some things here on Earth that need a hand from Santa. (I have just completed a background check, and you seem to be the Real Deal. A couple of the reindeer are questionable, but since it’s the holidays and all, I’ll give them a pass for now.)
1. Can you please deliver a COVID vaccine that is 100-percent effective, free, painless with no side effects, and in everyone’s stocking for Christmas morning? Can the vaccine come in the form of gummy bears?
2. And, please, also make the vaccine available to those who don’t celebrate Christmas, or have different holiday traditions. (Like Seinfeld, some people might enjoy the merriment of Festivus For the Rest of Us. If you haven’t seen that episode, Santa, you must.)
2. Santa, I am also wondering what you could do about climate change. The same people who don’t believe in wearing masks to prevent COVID, also believe that climate change is a hoax. Can you give them some special eggnog to change their noggins? I am so over those people.
3. Lastly, Santa, can you friend me on Facebook and give my business a “like?” You are what they call “an influencer.”
4. And Santa, just to be clear - I have been extremely GOOD all year, as I have been for many years, as I truly learned my lesson with that lump of coal you put in my stocking back in 1993 when I was acting out just a little. I no longer eat chicken for breakfast and holler at people who cut me off in traffic. Just wanted you to know.

We just love this volunteer team! Both Marie and Esther wanted a place where they could volunteer with their daughters on a regular basis. They came in and were trained as leaders. They now come in a few times a month as a team to help with all the laundry that has come back. The girls look forward to being together and helping a cause they care about. The joy and chatter that comes from this group as they faithfully work is so encouraging. The bonus is not only do these moms and daughters get to spend time together, but they are both also foster families and know the importance of fresh clean items going into deliveries. We are so thankful for this team!

We get asked why With Love serves kids through the age of six, not older. Since With Love was created we wanted to focus on serving under school aged kids. We wanted to serve them really well, which meant we had to make an age range. Did you know that in 2019 in Oregon 41.2% of kids in foster care were 5 or younger. Thankfully, we have made partnerships with other nonprofits that serve kids ages 7+. We have them listed on our critical resource page on our website. Connecting kids that outgrow With Love to another great resource is something we love to do. Project Lemonade is one of those great resources. Check them out if you have a child in foster care 7+.
