I was born in Oakland, California and raised in East San Jose, California. Surrounded by gangs, violence, and poverty, I felt lucky to graduate from high school and more fortunate to have graduated with a degree in Sociology and a minor in Criminology from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. After not playing my senior year of high school football due to a torn ACL, I earned my college degree while on a football scholarship. I lived my life after college as a public servant working for various government agencies ranging from Utah Department of Youth Corrections to US District Court, District of Colorado.
