October is National Financial Planning month. Financial planning is different from simply investing- it looks at everyone's situation personally. For instance, does it make sense to pay off your home versus directing those funds into a retirement plan? Should you use your cash reserve to buy a car or finance it? What would happen if you were laid off?
These types of decisions have a much greater impact on your ability to achieve financial independence than your market return. No one can predict or guarantee the market - but we can plan for various scenarios.
In these types of economic uncertainty, planning is more important than ever.
We're continuing developing our skill set at making sushi. My daughter's rolls are the ones that are nice and neat- I need to work on my technique a bit!

Puppy update...
The little guy is getting big and LOVES his food. He's fallen asleep next to his dish and he often dreams he's eating. Our older dog Dixie is very patient with Jake and they seem to be getting along ridiculously well- considering he randomly pounces on her when she's asleep.

Happy Anniversary to my husband Shane.
This picture clearly illustrates both my love of good food (the cake was delicious!!) and how much fun we had on our wedding day.
I know my husband will happily agree that every day since has been nothing but sunshine and rainbows...
But on a serious note, I love the life we've built together and even after all our together time during the COVID era, we still laugh a lot. I'm very lucky.
October 16th is Boss’s Day.
Early in my working life, I had far more bad bosses than good bosses. Whether it was the fake French chef who was actually from Brooklyn and used Cream of Mushroom sauce regularly or the handsy one that I slapped before walking out or my then boss's boss who never gave out a compliment- I learned a lot from them. My biggest learning -- be my own boss.
Who was your best or worst boss?
I want to give a shout out to our Compliance department. We are required to do quarterly "Firm Element" training sessions. I have been dreading do it-- I am video trained OUT for 2020.
Somehow, they have made the training entertaining. They incorporated hilarious video conferencing bits into the training.
In 25 years, I've never enjoyed the training more!
How are you celebrating your holidays this year due to COVID? Our family is keeping our celebration to 7 family members total.
