Dr. Iyer is a Board Certified Dermatologist and professor of dermatology at Columbia University where he is medical director of the Resident Training Clinic and supervises the diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases of the skin. He earned a B.A. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry and a B.A. in Economics from Yale College. Dr. Iyer went on to graduate with honors from the NYU School of Medicine where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He completed his medical internship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center of Harvard Medical School and then trained in Dermatology at UCLA where he received the Outstanding Resident Award for three successive years and was chosen to serve as Chief Resident. Dr. Iyer then completed an additional dermatology surgery fellowship to develop specialized expertise on laser surgery, cosmetic surgery and skin cancer treatment.
Dr. Iyer’s fields of expertise include comprehensive approaches to the treatment of acne and acne scarring with medical, light, and laser based therapies, skin resurfacing, botox therapy, soft tissue augmentation, liposuction and body contouring. He has special expertise in treating challenging cases of acne and scarring, medical dermatology, allergy testing and skin of color.
Dr. Iyer has published extensively in the medical and cosmetic dermatologic literature and has spoken widely at national conferences. He has contributed to the development of many widely used dermatologic techniques and therapies and has authored numerous articles on a wide array of topics including laser skin resurfacing, treatment of rosacea and facial redness with vascular lasers, skin tightening, botox therapy, soft tissue augmentation with fillers, treatment of excess sweating, and medical conditions including MRSA, rosacea, and psoriasis. Dr. Iyer is a contributing author to the textbook Liposuction: Principles and Practice.
While at Columbia, Dr. Iyer has also been involved in the development of and implementation of electronic medical records and he maintains an active interest in the interface between medicine and technology with respect to both cutting edge treatments as well electronic records and information management.
Dr. Iyer previously served as a clinical instructor in the Division of Dermatology at UCLA for several years and currently is on the faculty in the Department of Dermatology of Columbia University. He has been featured in Elle magazine, CBS news, and Yahoo. Having practiced in both Los Angeles and New York City, Dr. Iyer has been called upon to treat some of the nation’s most recognizable faces.
Dr. Iyer is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology and Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, the American Contact Dermatitis Society.
