About

Leading board-certified family physician Dr. Martin G. McElya opened Neighborhood Medical Center in 1998 to provide superior, seven-day per week medical care to patients of all ages throughout North Dallas, Texas.
Located in Addison, Neighborhood Medical Center, unlike many urgent care centers that are owned by large corporations and staffed by part-time providers, is still owned by Dr. McElya, who treats patients, along with a first-rate team of experienced medical professionals. In fact, patients often see Dr. McElya, clad in white lab coat and sneakers, dashing between exam rooms to ensure patient wait times are kept to a minimum.
Neighborhood Medical Center boasts its own in-house lab and provides X-rays onsite. The practice handles a full scope of medical needs, be it family practice, urgent care or occupational. Some 2,000 patient visit Neighborhood Medical Center per month, for a wide-range of services, such as routine physicals, vaccinations, treatment of childhood and adult illnesses, urgent care services, and management of chronic conditions, from diabetes to asthma. Dr. McElya is also experienced in treating patients with colon cancer. In addition, he’s one of only two physicians in Texas who is certified to conduct immigration physicals for Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States.
Dr. McElya maintains an active clinical research department within his office and has served as the Principal Investigator on numerous clinical trials.
He brings over two decades of diverse clinical experience to treating adults and children at Neighborhood Medical Center. He has worked in Bosnia, Kenya, as a volunteer physician providing medical missions work and provided emergency medical services to victims of hurricane Katrina.
Dr. McElya earned his medical degree from he University of North Texas Health Science Center in Ft. Worth and completed his Family Practice Internship and Residency training at Dallas Southwest Medical Center in Dallas. He is a diplomat of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners and a long-standing member of the American Medical Association, American Osteopathic Association,  Texas Osteopathic Association, and Dallas County Medical Society. He is a staff physician at Medical City Hospital of Dallas and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas and has supervised and taught medical students, interns, and residents at his practice.
